- Mr. John Franklin Owens, age 68, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, August 29, 2020.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Brother Robert Bailey will officiate. Burial will follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
He was born in Lynchburg, Tennessee, on December 23, 1951, to the late John Morgan and Barnie Alberta Ingel Owens. He was preceded in death by a sister, Carrie Owens Cannon Pitts; two brothers Barney Ray (Baby Ray) and John Lewis (Buddy) Owens.
John was a 1970 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School and a member of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church, in Booneville, TN. After high school, he joined the National Guard and was employed at Jostens and Stewart-Potts. In 1978, John became a member of the Shelbyville Police Department until 1998. He then began working at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy as a supervisor of training until his retirement in 2013. He was also a rider coach trainer at the Mid Tenn Motorcycle Education Center until his death.
John had a passion for working on cars, riding motorcycles, and a big heart for children. He leaves to mourn his passing, a wife of 48 years, Ida R. (Poochie) Owens; three sons, Martin Thomas (Leah) Owens, Nashville, TN; Michael Lee and John Paul Owens, both of Shelbyville, TN; grandchildren, Jourdan Owens, San Diego, CA; Paige Owens, Knoxville, TN; Clarissa Owens, Newport, TN; Courtney Owens, Bean Station, TN; and Preston Owens, Anchorage, AK; sister, Ruth Owens, Flat Creek, TN; brothers, Jesse and Joe (Shirley) Owens, all of Shelbyville, TN; an aunt, Jessie Bell Sebastian, Fayetteville, TN; mother-in-law, Ruby G. Trollinger, Shelbyville, TN; sisters-in-law, Susie Stewart and Lisa (James) Carden, both of Shelbyville, TN, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Feldhaus Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
