    • SOUTH BEND-Mr. Melvin Hostetler, 87, of 418 S. Edison Ave., died Friday, Sep 8, 1989 at 10 pm as a result of a tractor accident at 2001N CR-925, Mill Creek. He was born July 9, 1902, in Mill Creek, to Gabriel and Margaret (Bunton) Hostetler. Mr. Hostetler was a member of Teamsters Local 304 and had retired from Dallas-Mavis Forwarding Co., South Bend, and from farming. In 1932 in Angola, Ind., he married Beatrice Lehker, who died in 1970. Surviving are a three daughters Alta Chranliwy of South Bend; Winifred Studebaker of Lake Wals, Fla., and Arlene Nulf of LaPorte; one son, Robert Barthel of Niles, Mich.; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Haag of New Carlisle and Hazel Dillon of North Liberty, and three brothers, Earl of Mill Creek; Gerald of Rolling Prairie and John of Walkterton. Therr daughters preceded him in death. The funeral will be 1 pm Tuesday at the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, with Rev. Don Francis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
