Iris Marie Rasmussen, known to her family and friends as Susie, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2015. Iris was born January 12, 1925 to John and Lillian (Young) Hederer. She was educated in Marshfield schools and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1942. Her occupations were varied. She was the bookkeeper for Marshfield Ice and Fuels until her marriage to James (Jim) Rasmussen in June of 1945. She then moved to Amarillo, Texas with her husband and was employed by Federal Civil Service in the office of Military Training on the air field where he was stationed. After moving to Madison, Wisconsin she was employed by Wisconsin Civil Service at the University of Wisconsin in the Veteran's registration office. After that she worked in the payroll department of Ohio Chemical Company of Madison. Upon returning to Marshfield, and after the birth of their two sons, James and Richard, she took a course in photography oil coloring and was hired by LaMere Photography to hand color their portraits. At one time she was named by the Wisconsin Professional Photographers Association as the first runner-up in the state competition for oil colorists. She finished her employment by joining the staff of the University of Wisconsin Wood County Campus as bookstore manager in January 1971. She remained in that position until her retirement in February 1990. She was a member of the Marshfield Civic Band since 1951. She was past president of the Marshfield Jaycettes and past president of Washington School PTA. Jim and Iris resided at 307 W. 5th Street in Marshfield, Wisconsin for 65 of their 70 years of marriage which they celebrated on June 12, 2015.
Iris is survived by her husband James Albert Rasmussen, sons James Richard Rasmussen (Connie) and Richard John Rasmussen (Arlene); grandchildren Michael Rasmussen (Stacey), Jenny Westphal (Michael), and Hilary Rasmussen (Eric Plantenberg); and great grandchildren Shawn and Jacob Westphal and Jackson, Carson, and Kaden Rasmussen. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Lillian Hederer and granddaughter Emily Rasmussen.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home (1010 E Veterans Parkway) in Marshfield. Visitation will be immediately followed by a brief memorial service at 6:00 PM. A private burial will occur at a later date.
