- Sheldon, Ill. - Cleta J. Portwood, 76, of Sheldon, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Gilman Healthcare Center.
She was born Sunday, May 12, 1935, in Hinton, Okl., the daughter of Joseph and Lilly Stevens Johnson.
On July 24, 1955, she married Bill J. Portwood in Climax, Col.; he survives in Sheldon.
Mrs. Portwood was a homemaker and worked at Crow's Seed Corn in Milford, and as a medical transcriptionist at Manteno Mental Health Center and later Howe Developmental Center in Tinley Park. She was a member of Darrow Church of Christ and a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Portwood enjoyed travelling, collecting rocks, sewing, knitting, crocheting, walking, and being outdoors.
Also surviving Mrs. Portwood are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tim Portwood of Sheldon, and Mark and Amy Portwood of Sheldon; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Olive Johnson of Sylmar, Cal.; one sister, Nita Larson of Grand Junction, Col.; five grandchildren, Page Portwood, Ashlen Portwood, Alex Portwood, Alaina Portwood, and Adin Portwood; one great granddaughter, Airabella Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Bonnie.
