- Laura Mae Anna Boss Riley was born in Morrison, Missouri at home on Sept. 6,1927. She attended Morrison Catholic grade school and then graduated from Chamois High School in 1945. She worked at Swatchhouse General Store through high school and afterwards until she married William Ray (Daisy) Riley on Feb. 12, 1949. The couple moved to Jefferson City where she worked in a shoe factory while Daisy worked for the railroad. A few months later, they were transferred to Sedalia, MO, and she began working in a jeans factory. She became a mother on Oct. 27, 1952 and quit working outside of the home.
In 1955, the family moved to Kansas City to the Wagon Wheel Mobile Home Park where she became manager. On Feb. 7, 1959, they welcomed a daughter to the family. Together, they worked to help build a community for people to live in where everyone was family. In 1986, they became the proud owners of Wagon Wheel and continued until her death.
She took such joy in life. Some of her favorites included going to the casino, doing jigsaw puzzles, embroidery, cooking, dancing, and cheering on her beloved Chiefs and Royals. Some of her favorites on TV were college basketball, Wheel of Fortune, and Family Feud. The last 10 years of her life were devoted to caring for the love of her life, Daisy.
Laura loved people--her family was her world. You didn?t have to be blood to be family. She had a heart that will never be measured because we will never know how many lives she touched.
