RICHARD W. JONES
Richard W. JONES was born in Pennsylvania in 1798. He married Anna DYEabout 1817 in Wayne, Co., Ohio. She had been born in Maryland in 1800and was apparently a relative of the William DYE family who came toPorter Co., Indiana from Wayne Co., Ohio in 1836. In 1837, the RichardJONES family moved to Porter Co., Indiana and purchased 120 acres.Richard was a Porter County Commissioner from 1844 to 1846 and servedas the Porter County Sheriff from 1850 to 1852. Richard W. JONES diedon 08 APR 1862, and Anna DYE JONES died on 22 MAY 1874. Both areburied in the Merriman Cemetery near Boone Grove, Porter Township,Porter Co., Indiana. The William DYE family gave the land for theneighborhood cemetery in which Richard JONES and his wife and some oftheir children are buried. Their children were as follows:
1. John JONES, born 01 NOV 1818, married Martha WEEKS on
25 MAY 1843. She had been born in Vermont in about 1826 and died on 27DEC 1852. John died on 25 DEC 1855 leaving three sons - Andrew,Gustaves, and Esquire.
2. David JONES, born 25 FEB 1821 in Wayne Co., Ohio, married Eliza AnnOLINGER on 18 JUN 1846 in Porter Co.,
Indiana. He died on 14 SEP 1895 in Lake Co., Indiana and
she died on 25 JUL 1901. They left 10 children living of the 12 thathad been born to them.
3. Martha A. JONES, born about 1825 in Ohio, married
Edwin SHUMAKE on 20 OCT 1850. She died before 1874, leaving a daughterEliza who married Franklin EATON, and a son Richard.
4. Juliann JONES, born in Ohio in about 1826, married
Hiram WELLS on 25 FEB 1847.
5. Silas JONES, born on 08 JUN 1832 in Ohio, married
Martha J. DRULLINGER on 09 JAN 1853. He died on
14 APR 1919 and is buried in Merriman Cemetery. His children wereJohn, Mary, Editha Jane, Harriet Ellen.
6. Nancy JONES, born about 1833 in Ohio, married Joseph DYE on 21 NOV1851.
