- FAIRBORN Joe W. Flatter, Sr., age 82 of Fairborn, passed away Saturday October 20, 2012 in the Friends Care Community. He was born April 14, 1930 in Greene County, the son of the late Earl and Elizabeth Marie (Trollinger) Flatter. Joe served his country in the United States Army during Korea and followed as owner of the Flatter Insurance Agency in Fairborn. He was also the founder of Joe Flatter Auction Company and was a designated CAI Auctioneer. A longtime member of Fairborn United Methodist Church and Fairborn Rotary Club; he served on the Fairborn City School Board, Greene County Career Center Board, Ohio Auctioneers Association Board, and as a Greene County Commissioner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Richard. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; four children, Debra (Rev. Farrell) Davis of Fairborn, Joe W., Jr. (Angela) Flatter of Fairborn, Kathleen (Glenn) Baker of Enon, Thomas (Cheryl) Flatter of Fairborn; four grandchildren, Scott, Jimmy, Beth, Megan; five step-grandchildren, Anna, Dakota, Deanna, Tammy, Byron; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dora May Riggle of Kettering, Juanita Morgan of Fairborn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends (Today) Tuesday October 23, 2012 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. in the Fairborn United Methodist Church, 100 N. Broad St., Fairborn, Pastor Aaron Chivington officiating. Interment will follow in the Byron Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairborn United Methodist Church -or- Hospice of Dayton.
