- Betty L. Flatter, age 90 of Fairborn, passed away Wednesday April 28, 2021 at the Hospice of Dayton. She was born June 8, 1930 in South Bend, IN, the daughter of the late George H. and Helen V. (Mayberry) Watt.
Betty was employed as a school nurse with the Fairborn City Schools, retiring after 21 years of service. She was a member of Faith Ignited Church and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow with the Fairborn Rotary Club. Betty loved the outdoors and took part in many activities. In early years she enjoyed fishing and boating with family, and after her and her husband became empty nesters they played golf locally and traveled on many golf trips, as well as snowmobiling and square dancing. Betty also was an avid card player and excellent pianist.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe W. Flatter, Sr.; a son, Thomas Flatter; brother, George Henry Watt; and half-sister, Dora May Filing. Survivors include three children, Debra (Farrell) Davis of Fairborn, Joe W., Jr. (Angela) Flatter of Fairborn, Kathleen (Glenn) Baker of Enon; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Flatter of Fairborn; four grandchildren, Scott, Jimmy, Beth, Megan; five step-grandchildren, Anna, Dakota, Byron, Deanna, Tammy; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edwina Sutton of Trotwood; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and many friends.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 4, 2021 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday May 5, 2021 at 10:30 A.M., Pastor Aaron Chivington officiating. Burial will follow at the Byron Cemetery.
