- COLUMBIA, SC-- William Bingham Cheek, III, 71, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011, at Providence Hospital.
Born November 15, 1939, in Greensboro, NC, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Bingham Cheek Jr. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1957, the University of South Carolina in 1963 and Western Carolina in 1970. He taught at Dreher High School for ten years and for twenty years at Irmo High School. He was an avid Tarheel fan and a lifelong member of the Rams Club.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Doris Dixon Cheek of Columbia; his daughter, Anne Courtney Cheek Bailey and son-in-law, Timothy, of Pauline; son, William Bingham Cheek IV and daughter-in-law, Kelly Elizabeth Faulkenberry, of Spartanburg. He was grandfather of five: William Dixon Bailey, Courtney Alexander Bailey, both of Pauline, Anna Wallace Cheek, Elizabeth Pinkney Cheek and Thomas Alexander Cheek, all of Spartanburg.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2011, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, followed by a private burial. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the funeral home.
