- COLUMBUS - Walter D. Beck, 89, of Columbus, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Walter was born July 17, 1927, in Clarks to Walter and Mabel (Trullinger) Beck. He received his education at Pleasant Hill near Clarks. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-52. He married Veronica "Vera" Cerny on Oct. 13, 1955, in Silver Creek. He drove a commercial truck for 47 years, including 25 years with Behlen Manufacturing. He was also known by his C.B. Handle as "Bimbo." Walt was a member of St. Isidore Church, VFW Post 3704, Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and camping.
Walt is survived by his son Thomas (Theresa) Beck of Clarks; daughters Katherine Leitschuck of Columbus, Lynette (Tim Jorn) Venzor of Fremont, Judy (Troy) Coffey of Columbus and Sandra (Rod) Svoboda of Columbus; sister Margaret Zumbrumn of Littleton, Colorado; special friend Verona Moeller of Columbus, fur baby Snickers; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Beck, parents Walter and Mabel Beck, brothers Billy and Russell Beck, sisters Mary Booth and Jeannette Whipple, great-granddaughter Therese Venzor, sons-in-law Armando Venzor and Dennis Foulk and grandson Brian Miller.
