It should be noted that in various census records his birth place is given as either Germany or Austria. Also that there is a town and district called Dilligen. Dillingen, or Dillingen an der Donau is a town in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is the administrative center of the district of Dillingen. Besides the town of Dillingen proper, the municipality encompasses the villages of Donaualtheim, Fristingen, Hausen, Kicklingen, Schretzheim and Steinheim. One from this area would be known as Dillinger or one from Dillingen. GLD
