- Bettendorf - Donald Paul Jacobsen, of Bettendorf, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at his home after a brief illness on Friday, December 29, 2006. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 10 a.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Church, in Davenport. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date.
Donald was born October 31, 1931, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Gertrude (Shirbroun) Jacobsen. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Chanez, on May 14, 1955, in Davenport.
Donald was a 1953 graduate of the University of Iowa, and will be remembered as a life-long, dedicated Hawkeye fan. Just recently, he was inducted into the No Limit Iowa Hold'em Poker Hall of Fame.
Those left to honor his memory include, his wife, Mary Ann, Bettendorf, children, Robert (Suzie) Jacobsen, Roeland Park, Kan., Linda (Mike) Jacobs, Davenport, Paul (Sarah) Jacobsen, Shawnee, Kan., Ann VanWinkle, Davenport, Maria (Tom) Roccaforte, Bolingbrook, Ill., George (Dawn) Jacobsen, Manitowoc, Wis., John (Tracey) Jacobsen, Bettendorf, Catherine Jacobsen, and Wally Zelinski, Corpus Christi, Texas, Margaret Ford, Monroe Center, Ill., Barbara (Phil) Wilson, Davenport, Hank (Laura) Jacobsen, Davenport, Vince (Tara) Jacobsen, Bettendorf, and Ted Jacobsen, Postville, Iowa; brothers, Jack (Charlotte) Jacobsen, Truman, Minn., and Tom (Jo Ann) Jacobsen, Sac City, Iowa, and 27 grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Church or to Davenport Assumption High School. "Go Hawks!!"
