John "Jack" Richard Jacobsen was born July 17, 1935 to Clarence and Gertrude (Shirbroun) Jacobsen in Coon Rapids, Iowa. Growing up he attended school in Coon Rapids and was a member of the 1953 graduating class. While in high school Jack met and began dating Charlotte Truhe. Jack then enlisted in the United States Army, and trained at Fort Riley in Kansas. From there he joined other soldiers and Navy sailors and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. Once the ship reached Europe he and his squad were based in Germany. Jack proudly served his country for 2 years, 6 months and 4 days before he was honorably discharged. Following his discharge he moved back to Iowa and on April 12, 1958 was united in marriage to Charlotte at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids. Jack and Charlotte made their home together in Coon Rapids and were blessed with four daughters, Denise, Lisa, Amy and Jenny.
In 1965 Jack transferred from the Arnold Motor Supply store in Carroll, Iowa to the store in Fairmont. Jack and Charlotte made their home in Fairmont before moving to Truman in 1969. Jack eventually went to work for Mel Carlson Chevrolet in Truman where he was their parts manager for thirty-nine years, retiring in 2005.
Jack was active in his community, a member of the Truman High School After Prom Committee, Truman Legion, and AA. AA was especially important to him; he was a founding member of the Truman AA and would often speak at meetings and area schools. He was an avid sports fan, traveling to the Indianapolis 500 with each of his daughters, watching NASCAR, the Minnesota Vikings, and his youngest brother, Tom, coach college football. Jack also quickly became one of the biggest fans of the South Central Hawgs Football Team. Most importantly, Jack was an attentive and devoted child of God, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a faithful member of St. Katherine?s Catholic Church in Truman where he taught Confirmation classes and was a song leader for many years. He also opened the doors to his home to foreign exchange student, Pia Muhlig, staying in contact and treating her as family. He always had time for sporting events, choir and band performances, and Sunday family suppers. Jack led by example to all who knew him, putting God and family first, working hard and being trustworthy. Jack?s well-known words will forever be imprinted on the hearts of those who loved him and called him friend: ?God loves you, and Jack does too.?
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Charlotte Jacobsen of Truman, MN; daughters: Denise Janssen and her husband, Dan, of Truman, MN, Lisa Izen and her husband, Tom, of Fairmont, MN, Amy Werner and her husband, Brad, of Truman, MN, and Jenny Andrews and her husband, Scott, of Truman, MN; Denmark Daughter, Pia Muhlig, and her husband, Torben; grandchildren: Evan Lang (fiancée, Alida Carlson), Mackenzie (John) Schneider, Emily (Calvin) Labes, Nikki (Luke) Johnson, Josh (Emily) Werner, Matthew (Tiphanie) Izen, Bryce Andrews, Logan (Melissa) Werner, Bryan (Danielle) Andrews, and Michael (Sydney) Andrews; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (JoAnn) Jacobsen; sisters-in-law, Rayoma Rotert and Linda (Joe) Doran; other extended family and friends.
