- Louis W. Swaim, 86, of Windsor, Missouri, formerly of Independence, Mo., died Thursday morning, June 8, 2006, at his home in Windsor.
He was born January 20, 1920, in Carroll County near Bosworth, Mo., the son of Clyde Corbett Swaim and Cora Murial (Humphreys) Swaim. On August 2, 1941, in Chillicothe, Mo., he married Marjorie Jean "Marge" Lyons, who survives of the home.
Louis was an Independent Insurance Agent, in Independence for many years, until his retirement in 1982. Earlier, he was an insurance agent for MFA, now known as Shelter Insurance Company. Louis had also farmed; worked at the Independence Post Office, and during World War II he worked at the North American Bomber Plant, in Kansas City.
He was a former member of Bethel Baptist Church, Independence and an active member of First Baptist Church, Windsor, and was also a former member of the Properties Committee of the church. Louis was also a 25-year member of the Independence Sertoma Club; a member of the Windsor Lion's Club; the Windsor Masonic Lodge # 29, a former member of the Benson Center Board of Directors; the Windsor Planning & Zoning Committee; and the Henry County Sheriff's Board of Review. Louis was also active with the Independence Boys Scout organization for several years.
In addition to his wife, Louis is survived by a son, Dr. Truett Lee Swaim, and a daughter-in-law, Leigh Swaim, Leawood, Kansas; a daughter, Jeannie Lou Witte, and her husband, Dr. Richard A. Witte, Windsor, Mo., 4 grandchildren, Natalie Robin Holick and her husband Bill; Dr. Kevin Andrew Witte; Emily Ann Swaim and Adam Truett Swaim; a great-granddaughter, Reagan Sophia Holick; 3 brothers, Oren R. "Bill" Swaim, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Glen Earl Swaim, Lake Charles, Louisiana; Ernest Edward Swaim, Grove, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, June 12, at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor, Mo., with Rev. Doug Hall, officiating. Burial was in the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, Mo.
