FRANK GARTON WAS CLAIMED BY DEATH
PROMINENT CITIZEN OF TOCSIN PASSED AWAY EARLY TODAY
Frank Garton, a prominent resident of Tocsin passed away this morningat 6:30 o'clock, after a month's illness with typhoid fever, pneumoniaand Bright's disease. He has been literally at death's door for thepast fortnight or ten days and within the last few days had himselfgiven up the hope of recovery which had sustained him throughoutalmost all of his long sickness. He passed away very quietly afterrelatives had been in constant attendance at his bedside all day andnight.
Mr. Garton was born on the old Garton farm near Pugney in June, 1870,the son of Henry J. and Ann Maria (Trullender)Garton. His entire lifewas spent in Bluffton. He was married about twenty-three years ago toMiss Maggie Wasson, daughter of James Wasson, and to them six childrenwere born, four sons and two daughters, all of whom survive, withtheir widowed mother. The children are as follows: Halda, Harry,Donald, Forrest, Nina and Lucile. Other near relatives are onebrother, Marion Garton, of this city, and one sister, Lucinda, wife ofHarvey Deihl, of Marion.
Mr. Garton was a farmer for several years, but lately has moved toTocsin and was interested in several enterprises there. He was apartner in the Hall, Garton & Johnston general store, was manager andpart owner of the Tocsin elevator and was also interested in the Bankof Tocsin, in which he had an official position.
Mr. Garton was an adherent to the Universalist faith and was a memberof the Tocsin lodge, Knights of Pythias.
Two other members of the family are suffering from typhoid - Forrest,the youngest son, is convalescent, and is still very weak, and Harryis in quite a serious condition with the disease.
The funeral will be held at Tocsin at ten o'clock Wednesday morningwith the burial at Prairie View.
