Mark Lee Higley, 50, of Lansing, KS entered heaven, Saturday, April 12, 2014.
He was born March 20, 1964, in Fall City, NE, the son of Ted and Evelyn (Stanley) Higley.
Mark graduated from Atchison High School in 1982 and attended Dodge City Community College.
On October 19, 1991, Mark married his love and best friend, Buffie Smith. She survives at the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Amber Higley; a son, Alex Higley; two brothers, Glen (Sharon) Higley and Kevin (Katie) Higley; his nieces and nephews, Andrew, Dinera, Collin, Derek, Michael, Colby, Aiden, Lauren, Shelby, Austin, Landen and Laney; a great niece, Emery; and his beloved dogs, Leo, Simba and Nala.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mark worked at TWA and Winning Ways, but his passion was music. He wrote songs and played guitar, piano and keyboard in several bands including Disco Dick and Mirrorballs. He also enjoyed fishing and snowboarding with his family.
He loved dogs and was a volunteer with L.A.W.S., Leavenworth Humane Society and Missouri German Shepherd Rescue. He fostered a number of dogs and helped them get adopted into forever homes.
In November of 2013, Mark full filled his longtime dream of owning his own business. He opened Roverwood Ranch for dog boarding and daycare. Some of his happiest days were spent playing with his four-legged friends at Roverwood.
Mark was an amazing and talented man who deeply loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Memorials are suggested to Leavenworth Animal Welfare Society.
