  George Lane was the 1st of 12 children born to Stephen Lane and Jemima Dodson. He was married to Sarah Ann Kinney on March 6, 1860 In Bedford, IA. They had one son: John Stephen Lane, born Jan. 28, 1861. He enlisted into the service at the age of 23. Served in the War of Rebellion, Co.K, 4th Infantry. He was severely wounded in the thigh and arm on 5-27-1864 at Dallas, Georgia. He mustered out of service on Dec. 24, 1864 at Davenport, IA.
