David P. Murphy, 47, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Murphy had been employed as a production manager for Dixon Tom-A-Toe Co. Inc. in Kansas City, Kan., since 1990. Before that, he had worked for Armour Foods in St. Joseph.
Born in King City, Mo., on July 9, 1949, Mr. Murphy he had lived there until moving to St. Joseph in 1970. He was a graduate of the King City high school and earned bachelor of science degree in economics and accounting from Missouri Western State College.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Murphy served in the Army and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a member of the King City Baptist Church and Patee Park Baptist Church of St. Joseph.
Mr. Murphy also was a member of the Deer Park Baseball League Board, and served as a coach in the St. Joseph Boy's Baseball League and Bantam Football League.
On May 13, 1972, he married Cindie M. Trullinger in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by a brother, Mike.
Additional survivors: two sons, Matthew, St. Joseph, and Ryan of the home; his parents, Bob and Dixie, St. Joseph; and a brother, Ed, St. Joseph.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, King City Cemetery, with military rites by members of the American Legion Post No. 132, King City. Family visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
