- JASPER NORMAN (BUDDY) HOWELL, age 84, died Monday, May 11, 2015, in the comfort of his own home with his family by his side.
He was born in Yorktown, Texas on November 11, 1930, to Jasper Newton Howell and Nannie Gladys Calhoun Howell.
He is survived by his wife Diane, two children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one sister, and many adored nieces and nephews. Buddy and Diane had three children: Deborah Lynn, Jenifer Aline (now deceased) and Michael Norman. They lived in Portland, Texas for 45 years before moving to Kerrville, Texas.
As a child, he lived in Charco, Texas, and went to school in Goliad and Uvalde and graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1947 in the Lower Rio Grande Valley when he was sixteen years old.
He attended Edinburg Junior College (now Pan American College). While attending college, he worked at the Elsa State Bank in Elsa, Texas. Later, while attending Texas College of Arts & Industries (Texas A & I) in Kingsville, Texas he worked at the Kingsville, Texas U. S. Post Office. He graduated from Texas A & I in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science in Business, specializing in accounting.
He met the love of his life, Diane Trolinger, in Elsa, Texas, and married her on July 12, 1952. After his marriage, he joined the Navy and attended Officer's Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Buddy was assigned as an Engineering Officer to a Navy Destroyer Mine Layer during the Korean War. After serving four years in the Navy, he left the Navy as a Lieutenant.
Upon his completion of military service, he went to work at Reynolds Metals Company, starting as an accountant. He was promoted up the ladder and soon became the Head Accountant of the Primary Metals Division of Reynolds Aluminum Company. He worked from 1956 to 1991 and retired.
He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and qualified to be a member of the Sons of The Texas Revolution.
He donated his body to science. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to a charity of your choice.
Services will be held Saturday, May 16 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, Texas.
