      LEVIS

      Lura Dade Levis, daughter of John and Marie Miller Crouch, was born April 7, 1899 in Ringgold County, Ia., and died Jan. 4, 1979 at the age of 79, at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital in Chariton. Dade was the youngest of four sisters. Her father owned and managed a grocery store in Redding.

      She was a graduate of Drake University and taught school in Ringgold County prior to her marriage to Ron Levis in 1923.

      Mr. and Mrs. Levis moved to Chariton in 1934, where Mr. Levis started in the insurance business two years later. During World War II, Dade began working in the office, and stayed active in the agency until this past summer.

      During her years in Chariton she served on the library board, was active in the Presbyterian Church, and was involved in the school acitivities.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ron, on January 7, 1971; two sisters, Jess (Howard) Johnson, of Mt. Ayr and Luena (Charles) Gardner, of Santa Monica, Calif.

      She is survived by her son, Joe, and his wife, Mary, of Chariton; two grandchildren, Tom Levis of Des Moines and Ann Woods of Wichita, Kans.; and one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Shoemaker of Mapleton, Ia.

      Memorial services were held Jan. 6 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred Mansfield officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
