    • Sunday Funeral Services Held For H. H. LESTER

Harry H. LESTER, Routt County pioneer, passed away on March 23, at Pueblo, Colorado, after a long illness.

Mr. LESTER was born in Denver, Colorado on May 5, 1882. He was united in marriage with Hallie CAMPBELL on Dec. 3, 1915. His wife predeceased him May 16, 1963. Mr. LESTER is survived by two sons, Alfred C. LESTER of Clark, and Luther L. LESTER of Fort Collins; two stepdaughters, Hallie CAMPBELL, Conifer, Colo.; Thelma SHEPPARD, Tulare, Calif.; one sister, Nannette HIBBERT of Santa Ana, Calif.; three nephews, Ben HIBBERT, Jack HIBERT and Philbert HIBERT; two nieces, Dorothy REHDER and Virginia DODSON; one grandson, Larry LESTER.

When Mr. LESTER was tow years old, his family moved to Kingston, New Mexico. This was during the time that Apache Chief Geronimo, was on the warpath. He recounted many tales of those times.

At the age of eighteen, he came to Routt County from Denver in 1900 in a two-wheel cart pulled by one horse. He had to repair one wheel to make it to Hahns Peak. He came with his father, Harry T. LESTER, who was in search of gold. His father was a mine inspector and for many years engaged in mining.

In 1914, he bought 160 acres in Long Gulch which was mostly sage brush, cleared it off and developed the Borland-Vail Ditch, which brought water to Long Gulch.

In 1925, he homesteaded 640 acres in Long Gulch near Clark. He acquired other holdings from time to time and operated his ranch raising cattle, horses and sheep for some 52 years and still owned his original ranch property at the time of his death. He had unlimited faith in Routt County land and livestock, and it was with great pride and enthusiasm that he tended his livestock and cultivated his land, and in turn, the land was kind and served him well.

Services were conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Root Mortuary by Rev. Thomas J. BENNANZAR. Mrs. Florence NASH sang "Nearer My God To Thee," and "Jesus Sleeps" accompanied by Maxine OHMAN at the organ. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs Cemetery beside his wife. Pallbearers were Quentin SEMOTAN, Norman BUCHANAN, Carl BROOKSHIRE, Cyril NORRIS, Vaughn POWELL, and Joe FARRELL.
