"Descendants of John Tanner : born August 15, 1778, at Hopkintown, R.I., died April 15 1850, at South Cottonwood, Salt Lake Coun"
DAVID DAN TANNER was the youngest son of John and Elizabeth Besswick Tanner. He was born February 8, 1838, in Kirtland, Ohio. After going through the experiences common to his father's family, he left for Utah in 1848. He drove cows across the plains barefooted. In 1851, his father having died the year before, he went with his mother to California. He returned to Utah in 1857, and for many years thereafter resided in Payson, Utah.
January 10, 1861, he married Rebecca Estella Moore and September 14, 1870, he married Lithie Taylor.
He was one of the minute men who served all through the Black Hawk War.
In the summer of 1879, he and his family moved to Indianola where for a number of years he was bishop's counselor. Here he was engaged in work among the Indians.
There were born to him nineteen children, fourteen by his first wife and five by his second wife. Five of his children died prior to his death. In 1905 he moved with his family back to Payson on account of his wife's ill health. Later in his decling (declining) years, he moved to Provo where, in October, 1918, he died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. B. Fotland. With other members of his family he was laid away in the Payson cemetery.
David Dan Tanner, born February 8th, 1838, at Kirtland, Ohio, married January 10th, 1861, at Payson, Utah, Rebecca Estella Moore, daughter of John Harvy and Clarissa Jane (Drollinger) Moore. She was born November 13th, 1844, Hancock county, Illinois. He died October 19th, 1918, at Provo, Utah.
