- Wilmer Algot Burgeson, 79, of 510 19th Ave. S., Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Riverview Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill Beaton will officiate. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 2534.
Wilmer was born in Wisconsin Rapids Dec. 12, 1932, to Algot and Alice (Peterson) Burgeson. He married Donna Drollinger on Oct. 3, 1953, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids.
Wilmer worked for Consolidated Papers, Inc. as a supervisor in the coating department for 44 years, until his retirement in 1995.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War from January 1952 until December 1955.
Wilmer was a member of the 17th Avenue Gang during his adolescence and still met with his team members until his passing. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, with trout being his favorite fish. Wilmer also was a Packer fan. He especially loved and enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors of Wilmer include his wife, Donna; four children, Barry (Kelli) Burgeson of Port Edwards, DayeAnn Shomberg of Wisconsin Rapids, David (Mary) Burgeson of Wisconsin Rapids, and Mark (Sue) Burgeson of Port Edwards; seven grandchildren, Elisha (Daniel) Kessler, Cody Burgeson, Brittany Shomberg, Molli Burgeson, Megan Burgeson, Zach Fuller and Joseph Shomberg; four great-grandchildren, Breanna, Jordan, Brayden and Taylor; sister-in-law, Beverly Burgeson of Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin "Skelly", Clifford "Bud", and twin brother, Wilton; and his dogs, Tag and Amos.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home; and 10 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.
