(Ref photo of Coleman and his headstone attached to this website.Inscription reads, "Coleman C Miner PVT CO E 3 REGT MO State MilitaCav Civil War Jun 8 1840 Aug 22 1881")
Birth: Jun. 8, 1840
Death: Aug. 22, 1881
Personel Notes:
Coleman enlisted in the State Militia on Dec. 7, 1863. During the war,John Carty, Coleman's brother in-law, who is buried in Jefferson Barracks, was a civilian and was court martialed by the military authorities at Pilot Knob in Nov. 1863 for feeding and harboring guerillas. Some of the guerrillas were his brothers. Coleman's brother testified against John. John was convicted and sent to the Military Prison at Alton, Il. for the duration of the war where he died, possibly of disease, in June 1864 and was buried at Jefferson Barracks with other confederates. His court martial may have had something to do with Coleman Miner joining the Third Calvary Missouri State Militiaa few days later. Coleman returned to Reynolds County following the Civil War and married Sarah.
