Jimmy Taylor, 76, of Waco, passed away Sunday, April 5th at his residence.
Funeral Service: 1PM Wednesday, April 8th at First Baptist Church of Gholson. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Visitation: 6 to 8PM Tuesday, April 7th at Lake Shore Funeral Home.
Jimmy A. Taylor, 76, of Waco peacefully went to be with the Lord on Sunday April 5, 2015. Funeral services will be 1 PM, Wednesday, April 8, at First Baptist Church of Gholson with Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 7, from 6 to 8 PM at Lake Shore Funeral Home, 5201 Steinbeck Bend in Waco.
Jimmy was born on July 11, 1938 in Axtell to Reginald (Rex) and Eva (Trollinger) Taylor. He attended Waco High School and graduated in 1956. He served in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960.
Jimmy received many awards and recognitions during his tenure at NASA, including special awards from NASA astronauts for his technical contributions to the engineering of the Mercury, Saturn, and Apollo Lunar mission?s first and second stage rockets. Additionally, Jimmy received numerous awards for his innovative ideas from NASA, the Space Division of North American Rockwell and Boeing Aviation Corporations. Jimmy retired from Tymco in 2000 after more than 20 years of service as National Service Manager.
Jimmy was a private pilot and enjoyed working with any type of mechanics or carpentry. He was a talented craftsman and an exceptionally talented artist in painting, drawing and sculpting. He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Lacy Lakeview Police Department for the apprehension of an escaped murderer. He loved spending time with his family, friends and church family. He was a God-fearing Christian man, whose first love was and is Jesus Christ.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert (Bobby) Eugene Taylor; and daughter, Lori Lee Taylor Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Nancy Hudson Taylor of Waco; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Lassitter and husband, Dennis Robert of Mobile, AL; sons, Rex Adrian Taylor of Austin, Jason Brandon Taylor and wife, Senah of Waco, David Robert Taylor of Waco, and Sean Hudson of Waco; grandchildren, Lori Beth, Mark, Courtney, Garreth, Logan, Lainey, Kenzley; sister, Rexine Boothe of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bill McCown, David Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, Kenny Tucker, Logan Hudson and Tommy Rutherford. Honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Boothe and Rev. James Adams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Gholson Building Fund.
