Notes - "Little Jake" spent most of his life in Dublin, Pulaski, Virginia. He did live for four years with his older sister, Elizabeth Foote of Wytheville when his mother died when he was sixteen. In 1877 he moved to Bland County VA to follow his father who had remarried and bought a farm there. By 1890 he had moved back to Dublin where he worked for D. H. Hawkins of Mechanicsburg, Bland County who owned a general store there and decided to open one in Dublin. In 1890 he opened his own general store with Major James H. Darst called the "The Dublin Grocery Company". It was successful but burned down several years later. It was rebuilt as "Darst and Trinkle" and after Darst died, it was changed to "Trinkle and Glendy". Jake also owned a sawmill and a grain thrashing business.
