Graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in engineering, he was Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
Class of 1914, Virginia Military Institute. Volunteered at outbreak of WWI and was commissioned 2nd Lieut, Inf. on 9 Aug 1917 following attendance of the first Officers Training Camp at Fort Myer, Virginia. Promoted to Captain 24 Aug 1918. Honorably discharged 18 April 1919, serving entirely with the training camp at Camp Lee, Virginia.
In 1921, he became Professor of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at VMI. In 1926, he obtained his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., and was Head of the VMI Mechanical Engineering Department from 1942 until his death.
