Notice: My son, John W. Trollinger, of Co I 57th Regiment of NC Troops having been advertised by Lieut. A.W. Howerton of said Company, as a deserter, I take leave to say he is no deserter, and that the fact he was sick at the time in the hospital at Salisbury must have been known to the said Howerton. I have certificates in my possession from physicians in good standing to show my son is too sick to return to his Comapny. He will do so as soon as his health is fully restored. JOSEPH J. TROLLINGER Alamance Co. October 20 1862

Gordon,
I believe I understand who everyone is on the multiple grantor deed you sent. The James in question is really a grandson of Joseph's older brother, John. When Henry (1762-1844), their father died, the two brothers were co-executors of his estate. When John died in 1869, part of his estate may have been left with Joseph to handle for John's heirs.
Besides Joseph, the signatories on the deed are:
James Henry (1847-1927) a grandson of John.
Bella C. (1857-1897), James' third wife.
Daniel F. Montgomery (1859-1919) a grandson of John
Bertie Jo Trolinger (1872-1958), a great granddaughter of John.
John T. Trolinger (1844-1917) a son of Joseph (my granduncle who served in the Civil War)
Elizabeth J. Trolinger, John's wife
A. G. Cranford (1830-1894) Nannie's husband
Nannie E. Cranford (1841-1920) a daughter of Joseph.
Daniel M. Trolinger (1853-1915) a son of Joseph (my grandfather)
Annie Trollinger (1860-1925), Daniel's wife (my grandmother)
C. B. (Charles Beauregard) Trolinger (1862-?) a son of Joseph.
C. E. Trolinger (1824-1865) Charles' wife.
W. L. (William Loftoz) Trolinger (1859- ?) a son of Joseph.
J. H. Dixon (1864 -?) husband of Ada.
Ada L. Dixon (1866 -?) a daughter of Joseph.
Thanks so much for this information. This was a good exercise is working out who was who.
except for my grandparents, I grew up not knowing anything about these people. This is another example of "growing too soon old, and too late smart."

About The North-Carolina standard. [volume] (Raleigh, N.C.) 1834-1850
In article above it looks like Joseph J Trollinger, Jr is listed as being married to Miss Nancy M Farssley. Not sure if this is the right Joseph J but the date of the marriage looks very similar and it's a similar location.
Joseph's middle name may be John after his father. He even named his first son John.
The following is further evidence in support of Joseph's (1822-1894) full birth name: It appears his birth name was probably Joseph John Trollinger. Reference the newspaper article titled, 'Adam Trollinger Was The Forefather Of Trollingers In The Piedmont Area' under the headline, 'IN YEARS GONE BY' that appeared in the C-Section Page One of The Daily Times-News (of Burlington, North Carolina) published 14 August 1959 and the following excerpt that reads, "Although General Benjamin Trollinger and his brother John, lost their hotel, and later their cotton mill, the general and his brother John's son, William, were pioneer railroad builders of Alamance County. William also helped his father and uncle Benjamin Trollinger make brick for buttress work of bridges over Haw River, Back Creek and Eno River."
Regarding Joseph's nickname of "Josie": Reference his son, James Henry Trollinger Sr's death certificate where his wife, "Roxie", was the informant who supplied additional information including the name of James' father as 'Josie Trollinger'. If Josie was in fact his nickname, one would assume that his daughter-in-law - "Roxie" in this case - would know that.
