      Dear Gordon
Your long shot has hit paydirt! I am descended from Henry Drollinger.

As you will see from the enclosed photocopies of documents which my aunt Jo has given me, Heinrich Drollinger was born 26 Dec 1865 in Welsch Neureth, although two documents use 27 Dec 1865. Rather than being a barber, he apparently served an apprenticeship as a baker.

According to my aunt, my grandfather was employed by the Laub Baking Company when he came to Cleveland. Former neighbors of mine who are also German said that many German people were employed by Laub, including their uncle.

Eventually grandfather had his own baker shop at the corner of Pearl Road and Broadview in Brighton (now old Brookly and part of Cleveland). There is a picture of a Drollinger delivery wagon in a local history book. In 1910 it was necessary for him to get out of the bakery business because of the gases from the rye flour caused serious bronchial problems for him. I understand they lived above the bakery. My father who was born in 1894 also had his share of bronchial problems all his life.

After the bakery, grandfather went into the truck gardening business about a mile south and later joined others in creating the largest growing area under glass in the world (I believe). His sons Henry and Edward joined him in the business. Grandfather died 11 Dec 1942 at 77. Henry died not long after. Edward continued on in the business and later sold it to his second son, Donald. The energy crisis took its toll of the greenhouse business and the property was eventually lost. In the last several years it has become a home development.

My aunt remembers that an aunt Lydia lived upstairs from the Drollingers on Spring road, which was where the truck gardens were. There was some kind of "falling out" and they moved out. She doesn't know what happened to the aunt and uncle. She did not recall ever hearing of another sister.

Heinrich married Maria Stellmann 20 Sep 1890. Their first child was Willie who was disabled in some way and was pulled about in a wagon. He died as a child. Carl my father was christened Karl Jakob after his May 20, 1894 birth. Lillian was born in May 1898. Henry was the next child. Another daughter, Gladys, died a few days old. Edward the youngest, was born in 1907.

Maria (Mary) Stellman was born 4 Oct 1871 and died 25 July 1928 at 57 years. She died during goiter surgery performed by Dr. George Crile at the Cleveland Clinic. They discovered her heart was enlarged and turning to stone.

Thank you so much for writing me.This is fascinating business and I have always been curious about the family but had no idea where to start. This information should be helpful and i strongly hope that you will share additional information with me - please!

      Sincerely

      Marylee Drollinger

I put her in touch with Sighard as well as mailed the photo copies to him in 1993-94. Gordon L. Drollinger
