  • Notes
    • Daughter and oldest child of John and Mary Atwell born August 1836 at Ramsgate, County of Kent, England and baptised 09 October 1836 at St. Georges Parish Church, Ramsgate, Kent County, England.

Sarah was married (1st) to William Thomas Erridge on 27 August 1854 at the Parish Church, Parish of St. Laurence, Thanet, County of Kent, England. William was a mariner off the coast of Kent (lifeboat man). He died at sea. Very soon after his death Sarah and her children immigrated from England to the US on the ship Sidon arriving in New York on 14 July 1863. Sarah and the children joined her parents & siblings in Iowa.

Children of Sarah & William are: [five children]
1] James Henry (probably died in England as he is not on the passenger list with the rest of his family nor have I found any further record of him), 2] Sarah (married John Warren Sheffield - both died in California), 3] Elizabeth Jane (married Luke Mattley - both died in Nebraska), 4] Mary (married Harvey O'Dell Roberts and died not many years later in Nebraska), 5] William Thomas [2nd] (must have died shortly after they arrived in US as he is never listed with the family nor have I found any further record of him).

Sarah was married (2nd) to John Wallace McCoy on 02 September 1866 in Dahloneya, Wapello County, Iowa. They migrated to Nebraska for a short time and John attempted homesteading near the Township of Wanda in Adams County - Great Blizzard occurred. They then returned to Iowa and Wapello County.

Chidren of Sarah & John are: [four more children]: Iodore, Frank Benjamin, Otis H. and Ella M. (born in Nebraska). All of these children lived in Wapello County, Iowa.
