11860 | I12209 | Drollinger | Peter | Abt 1740 | by 1801 | 0 | This is speculation that Peter is the son of Johan Eberhard. There is no direct evidence that names him as a son. As he is paying tax in Marborough Township Philadelphia County in 1769 that would tend to place his birth at 1748 or earlier. He is also on the Franconia tax list 1774. Sources PA Archives 3rd series, volume XIV pages 27 and 328. Volume XVI pages 146 and 552 also list him with 3 acres and 1 cow. Then according to the Historical Society of Montgomery County (21 Sep 1993 letter signed by Judith Meier) Peter appears on the tax lists in 1788 with 5 acres, a dwelling, a horse and a cow. In 1801 his name was crossed out and and widow was written over it. In 1802 his mother was joined on the tax lists by George a single man with no property. George and the widow Trollinger remained on the Franconia tax lists until 1809 when both names were crossed off. Deed book 35 page 538 Montgomery County PA records the sale of a 9 acre 35 perch property in Franconia from Andrew Trollinger of Germantown, Philadelphia County, innkeeper and Susanna his wife, to George Springer, Taylor of Franconia. The deed explains that 4 acres had belonged to Peter Trollinger died intestate. The 4 acres were given to Andrew his oldest son. The other 5 acres came from Andrew Trumbore who willed it to his daughter Sophia, the wife of Peter Trollinger, who was to have it for her natural life. 11861 | I12209 | Drollinger | Peter | Abt 1740 | by 1801 | 0 | We know Peter Drollinger of Franconia (now Philadelphia) spelled his name as Drollinger. His son Andreas or Andrew was a Drollinger who was variously was recorded as Trollinger and signed his name to the probate of Peter record as Trollinger. His marriage record was as Drollinger. Andrew's children found in the records of St Michael's Evangelical Luthern Church Germantown (also now part of Philadelphia) went to spelling the surname drollinger, Trollinger and Trullinger. This is confusing to say the least and future researchers need to be aware of this spelling quirk. | tree1 |

Weddington, 3600 Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61603. Phillip and Hannah Drollinger had 16 children, they moved to Bedford Co., Pennsylvania and lived there five years before moving to Butler Co. (at the time Hamilton Co.), Ohio before 1803. Many of the Drollinger descendants joined the LDS church in the 1830s and they moved to Clay Co., Missouri where they experienced the hardships associated with mob violence when the Mormons were driven out of Missouri. Their son, Samuel, died in Lee Co., Iowa shortly after they were driven from Missouri. Hannah Drollinger bought a farm 6 miles south of Nauvoo, Illinois, and died there in 1845. The following county census was discovered in 1962 by Esther Benzing, Butler County Archivist. This census return came only four years after Ohio became a state and represents a rare genealogical find since it precedes any State or Federal Census in Ohio. It is a census of the white male inhabitants over the age of 21 which names the heads of households and gives the number of the white males over the age of 21 in the household. During the French & Indian War, Bedford (then Fort Bedford) was a key supply post linked via the Forbes Road (now U.S. 30, the Lincoln Highway) to York and Lancaster to the east and helping in the attack on Fort Duquesne (now Pittsburgh) to the west. I was lured there by some colonial censuses which showed: Philip Drolinger in the 1790 U.S. Census in Bedford County, PA (showing 2 adult males, 2 boys and 3 females). (Note the 2nd male would be brother Daniel who he travelled with) Hans Michael Drolinger shown in Philadelphia in 1743. Gabriel Drollinger in Mannington Township, Salem County, New Jersey in 1779. Henry Drollinger in Orange County, NC in 1779. What I found at the Bedford County Historical Society was: No Philip on the 1789 tax lists. Philip is listed on the 1791 tax list, the 1792 list was not there, and on the tax list dated February, 1793, Philip is shown as having left sometime in the previous year. The specifics are: 1791, PA, Bedford County, Cumberland Valley Township Phillip Trolinger is listed as having 1 horse and 2 cows; his landlord owns 300 acres. Michael Drolinger is taxed as a Single Freeman. 1793, PA, Bedford County, Cumberland Valley Township Phillip Trollinger is X-ed out as having moved. His landlord is also X-ed out. Michael Trollinger, a Single Freeman, is X-ed out as having moved. And, The Pennsylvania Census for 1780 shows Jacob Trollinger in Cumberland County, East Pennsboro Township Gabriel Trollinger in Cumberland County, East Pennsboro Township I didn't find Daniel there or any Elizabeth Worley, so there's obviously more field work to be done. Bob Soli Philip shows up in the 1790 census in Bedford county PA with 2 free white males 16 and up, 2 under 16 and 3 females. The 2 are Phil and possibly his brother Daniel who seemed to accompany him on his journey westward. It may also be his brother Michael. |

11885 | I2236 | Drollinger | Philipp | 21 Aug 1784 | 24 Aug 1834 | 0 | The further back we trace our family history the less there is written to be discovered about individuals. Philipp appears to be a tragic figure from the little I found about him. His young wife died a little over a year after giving birth to his only son. He would possibly had to have had to have a "wet" nurse to feed the baby. You can only wonder at how a single father was able to raise a baby in that time frame. Did his parents help with the child? Certainly he had to have help. Where did he live and how was he able to provide? There are unfortunately more questions than answers. The one thing I uncovered on a visit to the Karsruhe archiv with Rudi Drollinger was that Philipp suffered a Gant in 1839. This is an archaic word and had to be looked up. It is a German form of our Sheriff's Sale. The probability is that he borrowed heavily in order to emigrate to the new world and have a chance at a better life. His brother accompanied young Gustav to the USA and was enumerated in the census of 1850. After that there is no further record of the brother. Until the newspaper article recording his death by fire when Nathan Skeer's old tavern burnt down and he was killed in the blaze. The high probability is he died in NYC. The entry in Manhattan of the death of one Philip Drolenger in 1834 would certainly answer the question of why Gustav emigrated to New York. He had to have some money to get from Germany to New York City. Possibly borrowed because of the Gant processed in 1839. What he did there is a mystery. Possibly what ever he did explains the debt of Philipp Frey to his son Gustav. So far no record of his passage has been found. Nor has a record of his being released to emigrate or move been located. Since Werner Hacker uses the term released it is some form of permission to move from one place to another granted by the authorities. The authorities in this case being the Crown of Baden. These records have to exist some where as Hacker published in 1980 so they weren't destroyed in WWII. Gordon Louis Drollinger |

He possibly had some contact with him during the four years he was back in Germany. It doesn't appear there was any contact by way of mail as Henry was not aware of his brother's death when he wrote his will. GLD | tree1 |

11891 | I2215 | Drollinger | Philipp Gottleib | 16 Apr 1850 | 20 Feb 1880 | 0 | Baptised St. Marks Lutheran Butler PA Godparents Gottlieb and Margaretha Seif. According to grandson W. Phillip Glunt he went west to Ellis county Kansas, lived in a dugout. He died of Pneumonia in Denver CO after driving horses there to sell to the Army. Supposed to be buried in Ellis Graveyard but no stone found. This according to interview with the late W Philipp Glunt in the late 1970s. My father claimed he got land out there based on military service of Adolph W. Drollinger, nothing found to back this up. The 1880 mortality census for Pottawatomie County Kansas said he was a stockman and died of typhoid fever in Feb 1880. This would have been given to the census taker by his wife, Bertha. He was a member of the IOOF in Saxonburg PA. Whether he continued as a member in Kansas is unknown. He was in Allegheny City with his brother and came back to have his daughter Della baptised in St Luke's. Why and when he went to Kansas is unknown. Perhaps it was because of his sister, Emma, and her husband. Yet he went further west to Ellis and they settled in Pottowatamie and Riley County area. Confirmed Palm Sunday 1865, moved to Allegheny City 1871. Possibly to live with his older brother? Married St Luke's 17 Nov 1874, after birth of oldest daughter, Viola. His daughter Della Philippina born 22 Nov 1877 baptised there. |
