They traveled and square danced together and split their homes between Sutton and Geneva. Iris was a member of PEO where she held the office of Treasurer; the Federated Church Women's Fellowship where she held the offices of Vice-President and Secretary-Treasurer of Circle I; and the American Legion Auxiliary where she held the offices of Sergeant?at-arms and Chaplain. Iris is survived by: sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Karen Ramsey of Sutton, NE. and Ron and Ann Ramsey of Lincoln, NE.; grandchildren, Eric and wife Amber Ramsey; Nicole and husband Adam Hansen; Carisa Ramsey; Rebecca and husband Nate Brecht; Nick and wife Becky Ramsey; Alyssa Ramsey; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sally Barbee of Sutton, NE.; step-daughter, Nancy and husband Bob Riley; step-granddaughter, Susan Riley and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Lind Family Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Wally's funeral will be live streamed at https://www.lindfamilyfh.com/obituary/WalterWally-Bareis and broadcast live on 105.3 FM Radio to cars parked in the funeral home parking lot. Full military honors accorded by the Minnesota Honor Guard, American Legion Post #87, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #936, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #235, and the Marine Corps League Detachment #1409. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Please honor all COVID-19 health mandates, including social distancing and wearing of facial coverings. Interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa. Walter Michael was born on February 1, 1943, to Lester and Janet (Drollinger) Bareis in Cresco, Iowa. He lived in Cresco until his family moved to Minneapolis in 1950. Wally graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1961. Wally served in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1967, and received the Republic of Vietnam Campaign, National Defense Service, and Bronze Star Medals. Following his honorable discharge, Wally returned home and was united in marriage to Bonnie Buranen on August 2, 1969. He worked at Fit Well Men's Clothing Store and then as a machinist at World Engineering Company. In 1976, Wally moved to Miltona, and worked as a machinist at Douglas Machine in Alexandria until his retirement in January of 2005. He was a member of the Leaf Valley Sportsman Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and close friend, Steven Froemming. Wally helped to make many memories and will remembered by those who knew him best. He was born Aug. 26, 1931, in Kingman, Ind., to Lloyd and Madge (Drollinger) Baker, and had lived in Georgetown for two years, coming from La Porte. Mr. Barker retired as an architectural brick salesman and was the former owner and operator of Art Needlework Shops in La Porte and Michigan City. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Michigan City, Potawatomi Chapter of the Audubon Society, Michigan City Lions Club and La Porte County Farm Bureau. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and received the Good Conduct Medal. On May 30, 1953, in La Porte, he married Joan Vlock, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Lisa (Ralph) Bergmann of Georgetown; one son, Thomas (Jeni) of Miramar, Fla.; one grandson, Max Barker Bergmann; and three brothers, Eldon of Ventura, Calif., Robert of Glen Arbor, Mich., and Joseph of Martinsville, Ind. His parents preceded him in death. A memorial service was held at Pearson Funeral Home, Louisville, on Aug. 14. Essling Funeral Home, La Porte, was in charge of local arrangements. He was born Wednesday, February 11, 1942 to the late Lloyd and Madge (Drollinger) Barker in Kingman, Indiana. Joe grew up in LaPorte and graduated from LaPorte High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor?s degree in business from Indiana University and his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law in 1967. While at IU, Joe was a proud member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Joe started his professional career in the United States Department of the Army in Cincinnati for two years and then worked as an attorney alongside Sam Kagan for over eight years. Joe opened his own law practice in 1977 in Martinsville and served his community in over 11,000 cases. Joe cherished and appreciated his longtime, devoted secretaries Jean Goss and Zoe Kirk and retired from practicing law in Morgan County after 50 years. While he was a kind and gentle man, Joe was passionate about seeking justice for his clients. Joe Barker was affectionately known as "The People's Attorney". Joe loved to travel and visited over 20 countries throughout his life and loved spending time at his beach house in Fort Myers Beach. He loved investing and studying the stock market. Joe loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted father and stepfather and enjoyed watching and supporting his children and stepchildren in all their sports, theatrical, musical, educational, and career endeavors. He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Cynthia "Cindy" J. (Wilson) Barker, who he married May 30, 1992; daughters, Jennifer Barker and husband Doug of Martinsville and Rose Napier and husband Steven of Indianapolis; son, John Barker of Indianapolis; stepdaughters, Amy Bain and husband John of Fort Mill, South Carolina and Rachel Fishman and husband Zach of Fishers; grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Carson Bain, Sam Napier, Colton Bain, Dash Napier, Elijah Fishman, Olivia Bain, Layla Fishman, Ruby Bryant, Micah Fishman; brother, Robert Barker and wife Pat of Bloomington. Preceding him in death are his parents, Lloyd and Madge; brothers, Gene Barker and Eldon Barker; stepson, Jason Casamer. Private services for Joe will be at Costin Funeral Chapel with John Bain officiating. Joe will be laid to rest at Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon. |
