A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Hartman Post 84 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, with a 7 p.m. vigil, at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Walter was born July 17, 1927, in Clarks to Walter and Mabel (Trullinger) Beck. He received his education at Pleasant Hill near Clarks. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1950-52. He married Veronica "Vera" Cerny on Oct. 13, 1955, in Silver Creek. He drove a commercial truck for 47 years, including 25 years with Behlen Manufacturing. He was also known by his C.B. Handle as "Bimbo." Walt was a member of St. Isidore Church, VFW Post 3704, Knights of Columbus and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling and camping. Walt is survived by his son Thomas (Theresa) Beck of Clarks; daughters Katherine Leitschuck of Columbus, Lynette (Tim Jorn) Venzor of Fremont, Judy (Troy) Coffey of Columbus and Sandra (Rod) Svoboda of Columbus; sister Margaret Zumbrumn of Littleton, Colorado; special friend Verona Moeller of Columbus, fur baby Snickers; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Vera Beck, parents Walter and Mabel Beck, brothers Billy and Russell Beck, sisters Mary Booth and Jeannette Whipple, great-granddaughter Therese Venzor, sons-in-law Armando Venzor and Dennis Foulk and grandson Brian Miller. She was born on September 4, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri to the late John C. and Arlene (Trullinger) Beeks. She was a 1965 graduate of Maryville High School and received her under graduate degree and Master?s degree from Northwest Missouri State University in English in 1968. She was near completion of a PHD (Doctorate) in Retoric at the University of Texas - Arlington in the fall 1998. Beverly moved to Euless, Texas where she was employed by Simuflite. After the sale of Simuflite she became the director of publications of Global Group Inc. She married Eric Ronald Johansen on June 2, 1968. They were later divorced in 1980. Survivors include her son, Kaile (Amy) Johansen, Olathe, Kansas; sister, Patty (Richard) Dowden, Maryville, Missouri; niece, Dana (Rick) Bosley, Smithville, Missouri and nephew, Ryan (Amy) Dowden, North Liberty, Iowa. Memorial visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00am to 12 noon on Saturday, April 3rd at Price Funeral Home in Maryville. Patty was born February 8, 1949, in Trenton, MO, to Dr. John Charles and Arlene Trullinger Beeks. She spent her childhood in Stanberry, but moved to Maryville when her father received a teaching position at Northwest Missouri State University. She graduated from Maryville High School in 1967 and received a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics Education at NWMSU in 1970. Patty married Richard Dowden on September 3, 1971. Together they raised two children, Ryan and Dana. Patty was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Although she never became a full-time teacher, she subbed with the Maryville schools for many years and taught Adult Basic Education. She was hired as one of the first secretaries at Union Carbide and clerked auctions for many years. Patty's most important jobs were as a wife, mother and Grammy. She was deeply involved in her children and grandchildren's activities. She was a den leader, room mother, carpool driver, and pro at hosting any kind of party or event. After Ryan and Dana got older she helped Richard with the day-to-day operations of Price Funeral Home. Patty also made sure to take time for herself and her own passions. She was a golden member of Chapter HT P.E.O. and a member of the Maryville First United Methodist Church. She won numerous golf tournaments over the years and also played many Bridge games with her best girlfriends. Patty also put her home economic skills to use. She was an amazing cook, created numerous detailed ceramics, and could crochet, knit, and cross stitch beautifully. Patty is survived by; Husband Richard of Kansas City, MO, Son Ryan (Amy) of North Liberty, IA, Daughter Dana (Rick) Bosley of Smithville, MO, and Grandchildren Eli and Anna Bosley, Urban, Hayes, and Holland Dowden and numerous friends. Patty is preceded in death by her parents John & Arlene Beeks, sister Beverly Johansen, infant daughter Nancy, and father and mother-in-law Harvey and Florence Dowden. Funeral Services 10:30am Saturday, August 10th at Price Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, August 9th at the funeral home.
