3486 | I28231 | Briscoe | Howard Keith | 13 Mar 1930 | 17 Dec 2022 | 0 | Howard Keith was born Thursday March 13, 1930 in Troy, Mo. He attended grade school in a one room schoolhouse that he walked to, year-round. After high school he joined the Army and served in Korea and was wounded while there. He was returned to the United States to Walter Reed Hospital where his nurse was a young woman by the name of Betty Trollinger. He was smitten when he first met her and the two of them married soon after on January 12, 1952. When he was honorably discharged from the Army, he and Betty moved to Rockville, Md. where they raised three children. He drove a bus and a street car for DC Transit during the era of starched shirts and a tie. Later he was an engineer aid and ultimately retired from Montgomery Count Government. No matter where he worked, he provided the example of never being late and always showing up. He and Betty helped to establish the Booster Club at Rockville High School when it first opened. He was also an active member of the Rockville Senior Center, the Elks club and the Damascus Travel Club. In addition, he and Betty enjoyed many trips in their travel trailer, always sharing the experience with family and friends. He loved his family dearly and would have been content if they had chosen to buy and live in houses that surrounded his home. His love for Betty was unmatched. So, to honor his life and all that was important to him we will celebrate him on Saturday January 14 at 1:00 PM at Rockville Presbyterian Church (215 West Montgomery Ave.) followed by an interment ceremony at the columbarium on the property. We will also celebrate what would have been their 71st wedding anniversary. Family and friends are then invited for refreshments in the John Calvin Room of the Church. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lottie Briscoe and his siblings, Melvin Briscoe, Georgia Lucille Roberts and Winona Nuckles. He is survived and loved dearly by his 3 children Timothy Kirk Briscoe (Donna) of Kingsport, Tn.; Suzanne Brown Briscoe (Elaine) of Roanoke, Va.; and Houston Nathaniel Briscoe (Lisa) of Rockville, Md. His grandchildren include David Ryan Briscoe (Amberly) of Williamsport, MD.; Michael Nathaniel Briscoe of Kingsport, TN.; Jason Keith Briscoe of Perry Hall, MD.; Heather Elizabeth Briscoe (Amy) of Vinton, VA.; and Emma Kathryn Kessinger of Kennesaw, GA. His great-grandchildren include Hunter Zane, Quillan Blake, Reid Jackson, Gaven Nathaniel, Liam Gage, Niko Badley, all Briscoes, and Greyson Ace Kessinger. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a veteran's support group or the Rockville Senior Center. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Howard Keith Briscoe, please visit our floral store. Published by Snowden Funeral Home - Rockville on Dec. 20, 2022. |

He took up land about two or three miles southeast of Amarillo where he built a pine shack, fourteen by thirty-two feet. There he and his wife and two children made their home. Immediately south of the Britt home, thousands of cattle were constantly held, some for weeks at a time awaiting shipment. The cowboys used to bring the family large hunks of beef which they had killed for food. Soon after coming to Potter County, John Britt established the Britt Sheet Metal Manufacturing Company, which the business was still maintained at the time of the article by descendants of John Britt. |
