James L.G. Trollinger, proprietor of a farm of one hundred and seventy acres in Bath township was born in that township and has lived there all his life. He was born on 5 February 1864, son of Nimrod and Martha (Shaw) Trollinger, natives of the state of Maryland, who were married in that state and later came to Ohio and located in Greene county, where they spent the remainder of their lives. Nimrod Trollinger was born in 1827 and grew to manhood in his native state of Maryland. There he married Martha Shaw, who was born in that same state in 1831, and in 1853 he and his wife came to Ohio and settled on a farm in Bath township, this county, where they established their home, reared their family and spent the rest of their lives. Mrs. Trollinger died in 1896 and Nimrod in 1902. They were the parents of ten children, of whom the subject of this sketch was the fifth in order of birth, the others being Mrs. Sarah Batdorf of Fairfield, this county; Mrs Mary Jane Paxton, of West Alexandria, this state; Mrs Elizabeth Burroughs, of the Osborn neighborhood in this county; Mrs. Emma C. Harner, of Xenia; Mrs. Julia M. Wolf, of Bath township; Mrs Martha Ann Lambert, of New Carlisle, Ohio; John H. and Jacob William, twins, the former of whom is living in Bath township and the latter in Miami township, this county, and Charles who died in his first year. Reared on the farm on which he was born in Bath township, James L.G. Trollinger received his schooling in the schools of that neighborhood. After his marriage in 1887 he established his home on the farm on which he is now living, a part of the old home farm, and has ever since resided there. Mr. Trollinger has served as a member of the district and township school board, for some time the clerk of the latter body; as township highway commissioner and as a trustee of the local cemetery association, of which latter organization he is now the secretery. On national issues Mr. Trollinger adheres to the Democratic party, but in local issues reserves his right to vote independently of political parties. In addition to his general farming he has given considerable attention to the raising of live stock. On 17 November 1887, James L.G. Trollinger was united in marriage to Rosa Flatter, who was born in Miami township, this county, and to this union one child has been born, a daughter, Pearl Ann, who married Ray Wilson and has two children, a son, Howard L. Woodrow, and a daughter Gladys Irene. Mr. Wilson is farming a part of Mr. Trollinger's farm and lives in house across the road from the home of the latter. The Trollingers are members of the Reformed church and Mr. Trollinger has been an elder and a deacon of the local congregation for thirty years. |

Resident Jim Trollinger Dies at Age 90 APRIL 25, 2017 2:28 By FCNP.com Longtime Falls Church resident James "Jim" Thomas Trollinger died peacefully in his apartment at Goodwin House on Holy Thursday morning, April 13, 2017 at the age of 90, surrounded by his wife, daughters and granddaughter. James Thomas Trollinger was born in 1927 in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He graduated from high school and joined the Navy. Following that, Jim began his career with the United States Capitol Police in 1949. In this line of work, which he thoroughly enjoyed, he served under eight presidents. He decided it was time to retire when George Bush, Sr. was sworn in. After serving in the Navy, he moved to the Washington, D.C. suburbs, one of which was Falls Church, Virginia. Many of our citizens may remember the prominently placed Democratic campaign signs at the corner of Hillwood Ave. and Cleave Dr., where he lived with his wife, Olga. After her death, he moved for the last time (2006) to Goodwin House, Baileys Crossroads. There he met, fell in love with and married Claire Kuntsman. Respected by everyone, admired by many, and unknown to just a few, Jim was a regular at St. James church, a member of the Falls Church Democratic Committee, and he followed the City Council closely, providing many suggestions. This past election cycle, he organized a Goodwin House event for Congressman Don Beyer, as he had done in the past for his friend and Congressman, Jim Moran. This retired Deputy Chief of the United States Capitol Police, and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, will be missed by many in our "Little City" and beyond. Jim is predeceased by his parents, James and Elizabeth Trollinger, and wives, Patricia and Olga. He is survived and very much loved by his sister, Betty Trollinger Briscoe (Howard) of Rockville, MD, and her three children and his four children; Kathleen Smith, of Alexandria, Va.; James B. Trollinger, Margaret Hayes (John) of Stevensville, Md.; and Patricia Harper (Jeffrey) of Sacramento, Calif. His grandchildren are: Christine Bramuchi (Joseph), of Orlando, Fla.; Lauren Smith Ridgway (James) of Gaithersburg, Md.; James Matthew Smith (Misty) of Chesapeake, Va.; Rudy Hayes of Stevensville, Md.; & John Spencer (Sarah) Hayes of Seattle, Washington and Daniel Jacob Ackerman of New York City, NY. Jim would beam when talking about his great-grandchildren, John and Charles Bramuchi, Madison Archer and Ava Elisabeth Smith and Molly Elizabeth Ridgway. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 2, at the Chapel at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. Said Trollinger, "The officer told me there was trouble in this one room. He was checking to make sure things were locked up. This door was open, and somebody yelled at him. There were no lights on...He said something was wrong there." A real police officer would have demanded that the individual come out with his hands up. But over the years, Capitol Police officers have been so repressed by their masters -- members of the U.S. Congress -- that they do not think like real police and often defend practices that other law enforcement officers would consider scandalous. So the officer in this case simply told his supervisor, who was Trollinger. "I went there and opened the door," Trollinger said. "I flicked on a light. It was a senator with his secretary," a pretty brunette. "I knew them both. He was a big man. Everyone in the country knew his name. He was a statesman. But he did like his secretary....They were naked and having sex. He said to get the hell out of here and close that f---- door." "We have found members literally lying in the gutter," former deputy chief Trollinger said. "One time, we had real deep snow. I was working midnight. The scout cars were having difficulty even with chains. I used my own car, and I found this member of Congress fallen in the street. He was bleeding and drunk." |

James 'Jim' Thomas Trollinger, 68, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, from natural causes related to a brain tumor in Charlotte, N.C. Born February 8, 1945 in Asheboro, N.C., Jim was the James 'Jim' Thomas Trollinger 5th of 6 children of the late Henry Rupert and Ellen Brown Trollinger. He graduated Asheboro High School (1963), Guilford College (1967), and Duke Divinity School (1970). As an ordained Elder in the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church for 45 years, Jim served: First, Lexington; Salem, Albemarle; First, Charlotte; Oakley, Asheville; Dilworth, Charlotte, and Jamestown. During his many years of service he also served as the Executive Director at Givens Estates United Methodist Retirement Community, Asheville; Gastonia District Superintendent, Waynesville District Superintendent, Conference Director of Connectional Ministries, Assistant to the Bishop, and the Assistant to the Cabinet for District Transitions. Jim is survived by the former Sue Norwood, two sons Greg (Eleanor) and Jonathan (Chrystal); two sisters Sara Trollinger, Jane Chambers (Rick); two sisters-in-law, Joan Trollinger and Faith Trollinger; several nieces and nephews, as well as five grandchildren (Charlotte, Caroline, Charlie, Lilly, and Julia) who lovingly called him "Jim-Pa." He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill and Paul; and his sister, Betty Sheets. His life was enriched by a large extended family and many dear friends and colleagues. The service of celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon St. in Uptown Charlotte. Parking will be available in the church's parking deck on 9th Street between Tryon and Church Streets.
