4652 | I42083 | Carter | Billie | 13 Nov 1927 | 1 Dec 2018 | 0 | Billie died at 3:00 p.m., on December 1, 2018. She was born to Willis Carter and Leoma Trolinger in Oklahoma City at 3:00 p.m., on November 13, 1927, two years before the Great Depression hit. She was of German, English, and Irish descent. As a youngster in the Great Depression, Billie was raised by her parents along with her brother Bobby Jack on a farm near Tuttle. Life during the Depression was hard. She and Bobby picked cotton, pulling the bag behind them row after row. When the government began production for World War II, Willis got a job in California working in a Douglas aircraft plant. The family soon became transplanted Okies in Los Angeles. Shortly afterwards, Willis was transferred to Douglas? Oklahoma operations. Billie then attended Putnam City High school, but graduated from Midwest City. ? At the end of World War II, Billie was smitten by the looks of Chester Stacy, a soldier returning from wartime service in Europe. They were married in 1946 and shortly afterwards became the proud parents of James Stacy (JW). Hot on the heels of JW was Theodore (Teddy). After a year in rural Kentucky, Chester?s home state, Billie returned to Oklahoma City and later was granted a divorce. She resolved to become a bookkeeper as she was raising two rambunctious boys. Her mother, Leoma, and ?Grandma Bingham? helped Billie until she met an ex-sailor named Charles Foster. They married in 1953 and briefly resided in the Los Angeles area before returning to OKC. Their marriage produced two girls, Linda and Judy. Shortly after Judy?s birth, Charles and Billie parted ways. Now Billie had four kids to raise on her own. Leoma helped as did Billie?s brother, Bob, and his wife, Aunt Pat. During this time, the extended families enjoyed their greatest adventures with backyard picnics, holiday celebrations, and camping trips. ? Billie taught herself to play the accordion and organ and always enjoyed gardening and nature. She was an accomplished seamstress who made many of the clothes her children wore in grade school. She also painted and worked with pastels, preferring natural scenes. ? Determined to improve her job prospects, Billie studied to become a Certified Public Accountant while she helped manage the office of the W.A. Landers Plumbing and Mechanical Contracting Company. Upon earning her certification, she briefly worked for an accounting firm downtown. She was disappointed by the discrimination against females common in those times, which affected her promotions. Mr. Landers made an offer that enticed Billie to return to his company, which she then helped manage until she retired. ? In 1968, Billie married Bill Marr, a gregarious Irishman employed at Tinker, as was Leoma. Bill and Billie traveled to Ireland, Britain, Germany, and Italy. Billie also returned to school and earned her Masters Degree from Oklahoma City University in 1980. Then Bill passed after an extended illness. ? After Bill died, Billie decided to become even more of an adventurer and bought a series of motor homes, becoming one of the ?Rolling Oakies? club members. She also took up square dancing, which she enjoyed immensely, sewing her own costumes. As a square dancer, she met Cecil Hogue. Billie and Cecil became pals and traveled together. But then Cecil died suddenly on a camping trip in the Rockies and the music stopped. ? After Cecil died, Billie became reacquainted with Carl Gardner, who was recently widowed from Mary, his wife of many years. Carl and Mary were longtime friends of Billie. Carl had worked on constructing the original Frank Lloyd Wright Price Tower project in Bartlesville, where he met the famed architect. Co-incidentally, W.A. Landers, Billie?s employer, was the mechanical contractor for that unique building. Carl and Billie decided to unite in marriage in 2002, and moved to Eufaula to enjoy the quiet life of a fisherman until Carl passed in 2009. Billie, unable to live on her own, soon had to move back to OKC, where she lived with her daughter Judy until shortly before peacefully leaving this life after a brief hospitalization. ? Billie was a life-long Baptist, but never evangelized others or her children. After reading Raymond Moody?s book, ?Life After Life?, she became at peace with the idea of death as the beginning of a heavenly transition. She tried her best to get all of her children started on a good moral footing in life while she remembered to smell the roses along her journey. ? Billie is survived by her children: son JW Stacy (Nan), grandchildren Jerry Hou (Jenny, great grandchild Remy), Athena Nieto (Vincent, great grandchild Ozzy), and Apollo Stacy (Nicole); son Theodore Stacy (Kitty); daughter Judy Roach, grandchildren Shannon Roach, Kimberly Greenway-Colesby (Michael, great granddaughters Jayden and Natalie), Jennifer Roach, (great grandchildren Austin, Taylor, and Ainsley); Linda Mull (Audie), granddaughters Christy Krapff (Chris, great grandchildren Bryson, Conner, and Kendall), Casie Edgar (Matt); niece Debby Letham (John), and nephew Robby Carter, (Rhonda). ? Graveside services Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., Memorial Park Cemetery. ? In lieu of flowers, the family requests any remembrances be gifted to vascular dementia Alzheimer?s research. |

4661 | I17885 | Carter | Florence Ruby | 23 Jul 1915 | 18 Mar 2014 | 0 | Still living as of 2012. Florences's email address is: fcdrullinger@juno.com Florence's phone #: 517-699-4498 from: Florence C Drullinger fcdrullinger@juno.com to: ddrollinger@gmail.com date: Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 8:59 AM subject: Re: Florence Drullinger - David Howard Drollinger Hello, Dave, Your letter both surprised and pleased me, as Carol had told me about you, and had even forwarded your family picture to me. What a beautiful family you have. Since I have been the family "genealogy buff" and have now passed the "gauntlet" on to Carol I will attempt to answer all of your questions in the same numerical order you listed them. Unfortunately all of my records are now boxed up at Carol's house since I broke my back nearly 4 years ago and landed in this ass't living facility and had to sell my condo. However, I have been blessed with a remarkable memory, so think I can pull most of the info out of my head.! Incidentally, soon after your letter arrived it was still on my computer screen when my son, Dave, walked in the room. I told him to look at the signature at the bottom of the letter on the screen. He said, " Wow, Who is that ?? Then he told me that a man he had met recently told him there was a man by the name of Drullinger in a county in northern lower peninsula. Also, you surprised us with the revelation that there were Drollingers in Grand Rapids, which is about 70 miles west of here. (Holt is a suburb of Lansing, Mi, the capitol of Mich. ) We thought there were no more Drullingers in Mich, but now we learn there are Drullingers( and Drollingers ) popping up all over the country !! What a lovely surprise !! Here are the answers to the best of my memory: 1. Yes, Dick was adopted at the age of 3 and a half , but his full birth name was Richard Erdman Percival ( the Erdman being his mother's maiden name ). The Drullingers gave him the middle name of Henry, who was "Toot's father's name ( Henry Drullinger). A quick " aside" here, we have speculated that the different spellings with either a U or an O may have come from some sloppy spelling way back eons ago, and was never corrected. You may have more info on that than I have. Also, early in our marriage we met a couple by the name of Ohlinger who informed us that the "inger" ending was of Swiss derivation. Did you know that ? 2. Yes, the name of his biological parents were Harry Burnham Percival and Blanche Erdman Percival. 3. Yes, Dick was legally adopted, 4. According to his adoption papers he wasn't formally adopted until May 1, 1920, but according to Dick he remembered the Drullingers coming to his grandparents home ( although he didn't kmow at the time that they were his grandparents, but knew the date was May. 1919. ) He told me all of this when we were dating in college. 5. Yes, he was born in the family home in Detroit, Mich. 6. Yes, Dick's birthdate was Dec 16, 1915 7. Yes, my full birth name was Florence Ruby Carter, Although I dropped the Ruby after marriage and always used my maiden name of Carter as a middle name. 8. Yes,my birthdate is July 23, 1915 ( and I just turned 97!!) 9. No, I was born on the family farm 3 miles NE of Lake Odessa in Odessa Twnshp, Ionia County, Mich. 10. No, Dick and I were married on JUNE 14, 1939, not Jan as your letter indicated, in East Lansing, Mich. ( Two days after I graduated from Mich State College, and one year after Dick graduated from there. ) It is now known as Mich State University, from which 3 of our 4 vhildren also graduated . Hope I have answered all your questions, but I have a question of my own. How did you find my daughter, since her last name is no longer Drullinger, but Sauers? Also, a little added trivia. Many years ago when our oldest son, Bob and his wife went to Grad school in U. of Colorado, we went out to visit them on their 1st wedding anniversary. From there we travelled through Rocky Mt Nat'l Park where we stopped to gas the car, When Dick gave the attendant his credit card, the man said he had a brother-in-law by the same name. He was Jim Drullinger who was a rancher in Eastern Colo. Much later we visited Jim and wife Rosemary on their ranch. We were told that they knew of an ancestor by the name of Aaron Drullinger who lived in Mich. Turns out that Aaron must have been my father-in-laws' grandfather and is buried in the family cemetery at Keeler, Mich. The Jim Drullingers lived at Cope, Colo. We kapt in touch many years, but Jim's wife died several years ago, and I haven't heard from him since. I had no idea this letter would turn into a "book" , but the lunch call is ringing in our dining room, so I must go! It has been such fun chatting with you, and I hope you will write me again. Best regards, Florence Drullinger from: Florence C Drullinger fcdrullinger@juno.com to: ddrollinger@gmail.com date: Thu, Aug 2, 2012 at 10:25 AM subject: Re: Florence Drullinger - David Howard Drollinger Hello Again, Dave. I just wrote you about an hour ago, but they were knocking on my door to remind ,me it was lunch time so I quickly wrapped up my letter and sent it on its way. Immediately afterwards I realized some important Drullinger trivia I had intended to send you, so here I am again ! My father-in-law, Toot Drullinger ,was really Luther Bruce Drullinger. and he had 2 brothers by the names of Charles and Frank Drullinger. Frank had only one daughter, but Charles had one son and a daughter. Right after high school that one son, Lowell Drullinger, took off for the west and landed in your state of Wash., where we were told he married and had 8 children. He was a few years older than Dick, so probably is long-gone, but there must be many descendents of his scattered around and in Wash State. Also, many years ago, my son, Bob, who was a scientist with NIST ( Nat'l Bureau of Standard Technology ) until his retirement a few years ago, called me one day all excited that a man from North Platte, Nebr had just called him, and his name was Daryll Drullinger. He was a high school science teacher in N. Platte, but kept reading in scince magazines articles submitted by a Dr. Robert Drullinger in Boulder, Colo. Daryl told Bob that he had a brother in or near Dayton, Ohio. by the name of Dr David Drullinger, who was a professor at a small college near Dayton. Bob, of course, told Daryll that he, too, had a brother named David Drullinger. The real quirky side of that story is that my Dave had recently attended a Christian Men's Retreat at a church camp in upper lower Mich where he met a man who told him that he knew a man near Dayton Ohio by the name of Dr David Drullinger. My Dave wrote to that David, and here is another quirky side to the story. That David's wife happened to work in the post office and saw the letter, first, addressed to her husband, Dr David Drullinger from David Drullinger in Lansing, Michigan. How odd a coincidence can that be ??? Of course the two Davids corresponded a few times, but then we learned that THAT Dave was the brother to Darryl Drullinger in No. Platte, Nebr. Wow! We didn't know there were so many Drullingers around.! That is about the extent of my Drullinger info. My in-laws were not particularly interested in family genealogy, so I never got much info from them. My family, on the other hand, were avid genalogists and I have vast info for both sides of my family back into the 1400's. !! This has been fun, and I hope you will forgive me for being so "long-winded" but your letter just triggered something in my brain that just had to explode with all this info rattling around in my old head! Best to you and yours, Florence C. Drullinger PS. Meant to ask you. how did you find my daughter, when her name changed to Sauers when she married Jim 39 years ago and dropped the name Drullinger ??? [end] from: Dave Drollinger ddrollinger@gmail.com to: fcdrullinger@juno.com date: Tue, Jul 31, 2012 at 10:38 AM subject: Florence Drullinger - David Howard Drollinger Hello Florence! I finally received an email from your daughter, Carol a couple days ago (I have included a copy of it below for your reference). Carol gave me your email address and said that you were willing to help me if I needed it with genealogy questions. And, since I do have a question or two, I decided to write to you for your help. By the way, Carol and I have gotten to know each other a little better and she is a VERY nice gal! I enjoy her very much! Interestingly, my wife Bonnie and I actually passed through Hurricane, Utah where Carol lives on May 25 when we were on a vacation to see the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion Park. I believe your son, David was born in Grand Rapids, MI. and that you currently live in Holt, MI which is not too far from Grand Rapids. There is a family of Drollingers who live in Grand Rapids. And, I have actually met three members of that family (Chuck and Micky Drollinger and their granddaughter, Tiffany) and have become good friends with them. They have visited me here in Kennewick, Washington where I live while they were on vacation. Micky was born and raised in Oregon. These folks are actually as closely related to me as your father-in-law ("Toot" Drullinger) is! Therefore, "Toot" is closely related to them as well! "Toot's" great grandfather, Frederick Drollinger married to Barbara Wanick is who Chuck Drollinger and I am also descended from! Also, my wife has relatives who live in Alto, MI, and Adrian, MI What a small world! Now, here are some questions you can maybe help me with: 1. Your daughter, Carol informed me that your husband, Richard was adopted at about age 3 and his birth last name was Percival. So, was his full BIRTH name, 'Richard Henry Percival'? 2. Do you have any idea what the name of his biological parents were? 3. Was Richard legally adopted? 4. If he was legally adopted, do you know the exact month, day and year of his adoption? 5. Do you know the place (hospital name, town and state) where Richard was born? 6. I have Richard's birth date as 16 Dec 1915. Is that correct? 7. I have your full birth name as 'Florence Ruby Carter'. Is that correct? 8. I have your birth date as 23 Jul 1915. Is that correct? 9. Were you born in Lake Odessa, MI? 10. I show you and Richard were married 14 Jan 1939 in East Lansing, MI. Is that correct? I hope I haven't overloaded you, Florence! And, I sure do appreciate your help with these questions! I look forward to hearing from you soon! And, I hope you are having good weather there as well! Best Wishes! Dave Drollinger (509) 531-1122 from: Carol Sauers sauerscarol@hotmail.com to: ddrollinger@gmail.com date: Sat, Jul 28, 2012 at 11:30 PM subject: family history Hi Dave, Wonders never cease. I'm finally getting around to responding to your very informative call and beautiful picture of you with your wife and family. I loved it and shared it with my mother. Although Mom just turned 97 she's very alert and loves anything connected to family history and geneology. I told you I would confirm my brothers birthdates and the information I gave you on my grandfather Luther (Toot) Drullinger. My mother confirmed that what I told you about Toot not having fathered any children was correct as far as she knows. He had mumps which apparently left him sterile. They adopted my father Richard Henry Drullinger when he was 3. His birth last name had been Percival. For the record my brothers names and birthdates are: Robert Eugene Drullinger DOB 12-23-1944 Richard (Rick) Lee Drullinger 11-20-1953 David Lynn Drullinger 01-13-1956 My mother, Florence Drullinger, lives in an assisted living facility in Holt, Michigan. She has e-mail and I know she would enjoy hearing from you if you have any questions she might be able to answer. Her mind is very sharp on family affairs. Her e-mail address is fcdrullinger @juno.com. I believe we talked about her middle name being Ruby but she uses C. instead from her maiden name of Carter. Don't hesitate to e-mail me or my mother if there are other questions I'm forgetting to answer. Sorry I'm not attaching a picture. Haven't learned how to do that yet, so maybe I'll do it the old fashioned way by mail one of these days. It was great getting to know you on the phone. If you're ever in the southern Utah area we'd love to meet you in person. Thanks too for the information on Carolyn Drullinger born in Oct. of 1942 in California. That was interesting.
