WALL, of the County of Pulaski and State of Virginia do make and publish, and declare my last will and testament in manner and form following towit: I direct that all my just debts be paid I desire that my body may be decently buried in the Newbern Cemetery, and that a suitable monument be erected to my memory, and that the said Cemetery in which I shall be buried be enclosed by a good durable iron picket fence, and my executor herein named is empowered and directed to expend of my estate for the purpose of carrying out my desire as expressed in this item the sum of twenty-two hundred dollars for the monument and twelve hundred dollars for the said fence. I desire to be buried in the plot of ground in which Michael and Elizabeth JORDAN are buried; and for the purpose of keeping said plot of ground in suitable and appropriate condition, and the said monument in proper condition and repair I devise unto Elizabeth L. JORDAN the sum of three hundred dollars to be invested by her at a legal rate of interest payable annually the said interest to be expended by her in keeping the said plot of ground in appropriate condition and the said monument in proper condition and repair as aforesaid. I devise the said sum of three hundred dollars to the said Elizabeth L. JORDAN in trust for the purposes aforesaid. I direct that all the real estate of which I may die seized and possessed be sold by my executor hereinafter named, privately or publicly and upon such terms as may seem best in his judgement for the benefit of my estate; provided, however, that be shall not extend any credit upon the purchase money for any said real estate beyond three years from the sale thereof and that be make a good and sufficient deed to the purchasers of said real estate when the purchase money therefore shall have been fully paid. My executor hereinafter named is authorized to extend further time to A.F. BARKER for the payment of a debt due me by the said A.F. BARKER upon such terms and conditions as to my said executor shall seem best for the benefit of my estate, provided that the extension of time for the payment of said debt shall not be beyond a period of three years from the date of my death. I direct that my executor hereinafter named do collect one third of the debt due me by W.J. JORDAN and others ass trustees of the M.E. Church South for the house and land sold by me to them for a parsonage for said Church by agreement bearing date 29th day of July 1884, said agreement being signed by W.J. JORDAN and myself and being in the custody of R.D. GARDNER; and that my said executor do pay the one third of said debt to R.D. GARDNER as trustee to be expended by the said GARDNER as such trustee in improving and repairing the Methodist Episcopal Church South in the town of Newbern in such way as in his judgement shall seem best. The balance of said debt dire we for said house and land I do release and cancel and give to the said trustees for the said parsonage; and when one third of said debt shall have been paid to my executor I direct that he shall convey the said house and lot by a good and sufficient deed to the trustees of said church, to be held and used by them as a parsonage for said church. I give devise and bequeath unto W.J. JORDAN, R.D. GARDENER, and Selden LOUGLEY, as trustees, the sum of five thousand dollars, to be held in trust by them for the benefit of the superannuated preachers of the Holston Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, the said sum to be invested by the said trustees at a legal rate of interest payable annually and the said interest to be collected by the said trustees as it falls due and paid by them to the Joint Board of Finance of said Conference, or other board or persons authorized by the discipline of said church for the benefit of superannuated preachers of said Holston Conference. In managing and investing the said fund, a majority of said trustees shall control. I give, devise, and bequeath the following sums to the following persons: To my brother A.F. WALL the sum of five thousand dollars. To Waddy WALL, Guy WALL, Fannie WALL, and Lula WALL, children of my said brother A.F. WALL five hundred dollars each. To my brother Paris WALL six thousand dollars. To my brother Frank WALL the sum of six thousand dollars. To W.J. WALL and Mary WALL children of my said brother Frank WALL, five hundred each. To the children of my deceased brother John WALL, namely Ella JOHNSON, Ollie CARPER, Jennie WALL, and Emma WALL four thousand dollars to be equally divided among them. To the children of my deceased brother Harvey WALL, namely Josie WALL, Ella BALLARD, John WALL, George WALL, Sena WILLIAMS, and Susan WALL five hundred dollars each, and Helen WALL one thousand dollars. To the children of my sister Eliza Ellen EVANS, namely Frank EVANS, James EVANS, Ollie EVANS, and Mary EVANS, one thousand dollars each. To James C. MOREHEAD, infant son of George W. MOREHEAD, deceased, five hundred dollars. To Joseph L. WYSOR and Emma WYSOR, infant children of J.C. WYSOR, five hundred dollars each. To Eula WALL WYSOR, infant daughter of M.J. WYSOR, five hundred dollars, and to La Mae WYSOR, infant son of said M.J. WYSOR two hundred dollars. To Lizzie WYSOR and Jean WYSOR, infant daughters of H.L. WYSOR, two hundred and fifty dollars each. To O.P. JORDAN and N.C. JORDAN his wife, five hundred dollars to be equally divided between them. To Elizabeth L. JORDAN, one thousand dollars. To Lennie LONGLEY, wife of Selden LONGLEY, five hundred dollars. To Austin JONES, colored, the sum of one hundred dollars in recognition of his services as an attentive, faithful servant. I direct that the five hundred dollars hereinbefore devised to Josie WALL be paid by my executor to my brother Frank WALL, to be held by him in trust for the benefit of said Josie WALL. I give and devise my gold watch and chain to my nephew W.J. WALL, son of my brother Frank WALL. I give and bequeath the residue of my estate to my brothers, A.F. WALL, Frank WALL, and Paris WALL, and my sister Eliza Ellen EVANS, to be divided equally between them. I constitute and appoint my friend Joseph C. WYSOR executor of this my last will and testament, and revoke all former wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made. Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 15 at Connally/Compton with the Rev. Larry "Lalo" Castillo officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park. A. L. was born Sept. 26, 1917, in Axtell, Texas, to A. D. and Julia Trollinger Wallace. His early life was spent in the Axtell, Gholson and China Spring communities. He moved to Lorena in 1949. A. L. was an accomplished baseball player, playing on many of the regional teams in the 1930's and the 1940's. Prior to the outbreak of the war, he was scheduled to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers. After the war, he continued to play on the local Universal Atlas Cement Plant team. He joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and served with both the Army and eventually the Army Air Corps until his discharge in 1945. He was a member of Company B, 142nd Regiment, 16th Division, Fifth Army and served in both North Africa and Italy. He was in combat with Company B during the earliest stages of the Italian campaign during WWII, including the landing at Salerno on Sept. 9, 1943. He was wounded near the town of Altavilla nine days after the initial landing. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals during this time. Following his military service, he was employed at the Universal Atlas Cement Plant (now Lehigh Corporation) and retired after 36 years of service in 1982. A. L. was a member of Lorena First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Patsy Ruth Wallace in 1994 and his oldest sister, Edna Earl Cook, in 1998. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Karen Wallace of Macon, Ga; brother, Bob, Bill, and Roy of Waco, and Henry (Garland) of Lorena; sisters, Nell Wallace, Laura Ling, and Mary Neal of Lorena and Shirley Springfield of Lott; and 30 nieces and nephews.
