He was a retired paint contractor. He was a member of the Church of Christ since 1949. Several neighbor children were at the Young home, playing together and all were eating sandwiches when Michael became choked on the food, causing his quick death. Mrs. Young rushed him to the hospital at Stayton but to no avail. Graveside services were held at Miller cemetery, Monday afternoon, with Rev. Gerald Manley, pastor of Scio Baptist Church conducting the rites. He was born February 1, 1952 at Albany and had lived on the farm near Scio until his passing. Besides the parents, he is survived by two brothers, Robert, 15, and Larry, 13, and sister, Carol, 6 of the family home; and grandparents, Mr and Mrs. James Trollinger, also of Scio and C. B. Young, Spartanburg, South Carolina. |

Rev. Mike Allred will officiate. Burial will follow at 1:30 PM in White Mound Cemetery in Tom Bean, Texas. Ray was born January 7, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Rex Raymond Young and Lola Joe Trolinder Young. Ray married Edwina Thornton Harrison on September 29, 1989 in Bonham, Texas. He retired from Mobile Oil Company after 34 years of service. He held a number of positions from foreman on a pipeline to building engineer and maintenance supervisor. His career took him a number of places including Levelland, TX, Wichita Falls, TX and Dallas, TX. In Dallas, he was in charge of repairing the "Flying Red Horse" on the building. Ray enjoyed working in his shop and was always "gassing up the tractor" to take care of mowing and outside chores. He was a member of Boyd Baptist Church where he served in a number of areas, but his most noted "job" was greeter. Sunday mornings found him passing out bulletins and "Ray hugs" to everyone from the youngest child to the more mature ladies. He was a true people person and a wonderful Christian man. Ray loved his family and his greatest joy was spending time with them. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Inas Barton and Gaye Petty. Ray leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife, Edwina Young of Sherman, TX; son, Mike Young (Kay) of Duncanville, TX; daughters, Linda Thoreson (Bill) and Barbara Clayton, both of Dallas, TX and Karen Willis (Richard) of Waco, TX; stepson, David Harrison (Lisa) of Sherman, TX; stepdaughter, Shelley Boque (John) of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Neketa Thompson (Charlie) of Wichita Falls, TX; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Pallbearers will be Aaron Young, Jeff Clayton, Marc Willis, Scott Thoreson, Brian Thoreson, D. J. Strickland, David Harrison and Daniel Harrison. |
