She also told me the William "Bill" Pratt, the brother of Joseph Carroll "Jim" Pratt, is living in West Richland, WA and that he is suffering from some type of life-threatening illness. She also said her aunt Irma and her husband who are now both deceased, used to do a lot of genealogy work and donated lots of time down at the East Benton County Historical Society where there is a whole wall of information on the Pratt family. She recommended I take a look at that. Fern told me she was 70 years old. She told me she was a member of the Class of '55 at Kennewick High School. She said there are other Dickinson people living in the Tri-City area but many of them are not related. She is a nice gal and we had a good visit. (David H. John Diebold, proprietor of the National House, this city, who departed this life yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, was one of our most industrious, active and enterprising citizens. He leaves a kind wife, a dutiful son, three loving daughters and many kind friends to mourn his departure. Deceased was born in Ellmendingen, Pforzsheim Baden, December 7th, 1829; he was married to Margaret May, May 1st, 1852, and in June 1854 they, in company with their parents and others to the number of thirty two, came to this country. He came straight to Marion, and has ever since resided here. During his life in Marion, he has done much, even more than his share to build up and improve the interests of our little city; his whole sole and ambition was to do good in the way of enterprise; he was the poor man's friend, always ready to extend a helping hand; he was a member of the Council, and was always on hand to do duty financially, when necessary, he said, "my money was made here and here I will spend it." He will be missed by all his friends, of which there are no small number. Mr. Diebold was on the streets last Saturday evening, appearing in the best of health, and Sunday morning he was attending to his duties until about 9'oclock, when he complained of not being well. On Monday, Dr. Sweney was called and pronounced the disease typhoid fever. He remained sick three and a half days when death relieved him. The funeral will take place tomorrow from the National House at 2 o'clock p.m. Rev. Reif will officiate in the German language, and Rev. S. D. Bates in the English. The remains will be placed in the cemetery vault. |

My fathers last name should have been Diehl as Graces first husband was Leo Kelley Diehl but they divorced and she remarried under the name Burton and the kids(James G and Clara) took on the Burton name. Burton fatally injured in slippery alley while looking for work: After his body lay in the county morgue for several hours, the young man who slipped in the slush and was fatally injured in an alley between Terry and Boren Avenues yesterday afternoon was identified as James G. Burton, 26 years old who was searching for work to support his wife and two small children. The fall broke his neck. The body was identified by his mother, Mrs. Grace Burton, She notified the widow, Mrs. Florence Burton, and his two children age 5 and 3 years old. The fall was witnessed by employees of the Admiral Cleaners on Madison Street, They said Burton appeared to throw out one arm which struck the fender of a parked automobile. then he landed heavily on his neck, head and back. Finally got some time to look at this. My father was born on the 11th of June(my error) I think I was thinking of D-Day which he was on the beaches of Normandy at the young age of 17 and turned 18 a few days later. My grandfather James Galen Diehl Burton Sr was born in 1906 and died in 1932 in Seattle Wa. While looking for a job he slipped and fell on the icy streets and hit his head on a car fender and died. He left his wife Florence Aitken Burton with two young children, my father and my Aunt Bonnie. I asked my mother about where Grace was buried and she could not remember which is weird for her because even at 99 she remembers everything! I am sure there are records somewhere as I believe she is buried in Everett WA, I checked on Find a Grave and could not find anything. I may have some info in all the boxes of records I have from my Mom, if I find anything I will let you know. Lake Stevens ? Wow yes it is a small world!! Short story speaking of small worlds ? My husband and I were living in Bonney Lake WA and had been living in the house for approx. 5 years when a young couple with two boys moved into the house behind ours, we made friends and spoke once and a while over the years. When my Father died in 2014 his half brother James Commrada attended the funeral with his wife. We got to talking and his wife?s son was related to the couple living behind us and in fact they had been there visiting in the past (RIGHT BEHIND US!) THAT is a small world ?? I have a lot of info on my mother?s side of the Family, would you be interested ?
