subject: Re: Chad David Drollinger
Hi Dave. I adopted Chad in my first marriage. We did not have much money at the time, so Chad was buried at the foot of my ex-wife's grandfather's grave. There is no marker there. Micky has talked to me about getting a marker for him, but we have not accomplished that as of yet. This is a good reminder to get going on that project. We have all the information at home and will send it to you when we get back to the homestead. Micky said that she sent you the information that she had, but we can send it again. We are now in San Antonio, was 80 degrees yesterday and is now 44 degrees. Have a great Sunday and may God bless you and Bonnie. Chuck

8611 I2200  Drollinger  Charles Augustus  8 May 1874  26 Dec 1945  Charles was a piano tuner. He was always interested in music and played the violin. He was a member of the Teutonia Mannechoir which is a German singing club on the north side. He suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and was bedridden the last 28 years of his life. According to uncle Gordon Alexander Skelly, he was always cheerful in spite of his affliction. In their early pictures it is hard to tell the difference between him and my father. I don't remember him except being in a bed. While his wife was dying at our house from cancer, Chick was living at 30 Hemphill Street and was supposed to be caring for the old man. He died under some mysterious circumstances. My father said his brother Chick left him on the commode and he fell and hit his head. This was part of the bad blood between Chick and my dad.

Application for Marriage License 15 June 1899 on file Allegheny County Courthouse lists Charles as living at 64 Hamilton ST Allegheny City and occupation as a machinist. Carrie Ullmann as living at 247 River Ave, Allegheny City. They were married at Grace Lutheran Church, Troy Hill, Allegheny City.

8614 I11878  Drollinger  Charles David "Chuck"  18 Dec 1945  5 Jan 2023  Charles David Drollinger was a man of true adventure, a hero, a mentor, and a father always led by the Holy Spirit. He was called home to be with his Heavenly Father and Savior at age 77 on Thursday, January 5, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Micky Drollinger; sons, Chad Drollinger, Lyle Reidt and Allien Lorenzo; his parents, David and Alice Drollinger. 8615 I2193  Drollinger  Charles Frederick   26 Sep 1900  21 Dec 1981  Charles F. was also a member of Trinity Lutheran, joining by confirmation 16 April 1916, removal by letter 9 March 1933.

Charles worked for Railway Express Agency in Pittsburgh PA. He was known as "pot roast" because he liked to eat. He had blue eyes. His manner of speaking was to take a deep breath and then fire the words out like bullets. Nick name was Chick or Chickie. 1930 census lists him as 29, wife Alma as 34, sons Charles and Robert and daughter Helen. Occupation was given as driver express. He worked for Railway Express Agency all his life. He lived on Perrysville Ave near Perry High School. For what ever reasons he had there was always bad blood between him and my father. Being the oldest he was my grandmother's favorite. From what stories I heard heard he wasn't the nicest person on the planet. I can remember as a small child he and my parents had a loud and violent argument after my grandmother died. Chick wanted his mothers rings while my father was the executor of her estate and wouldn't give them to him. As a result of that they were not on speaking terms for at least 12 years. Chick's marriage to Edith seemed to mellow him out as he was much nicer person when I knew him.

When he died his wife Edith called my dad looking for the deed to the plot in Uniondale Cemetery that my dad purchased when my grand mother died. My dad told her he was the owner of the plot and she would have to buy a plot for Chick. When he hung up he was heard to say "that SOB is not getting buried beside my mother."

8619 I2185  Drollinger  Charles Frederick  2 Jul 1923  14 Oct 1988  I was very young when my cousin Charles went back into the army. He got out 2 Jan 1946 and went back in 27 Jul 1948 according to the dates on his DD 214s (Report of Seperation from the Armed Forces of the United States). While out of the service he worked as a laborer for Oswald and Hess meat packers in Pittsburgh. My dad and I were visiting him at my grandmother's house on Hemphill street as he packed and he gave me 3 books of Randy Starr and the Air Circus. I never saw him after that but always had the idea of some day meeting up and exchanging stories of military life. It was a shock to me when I heard of his death. His life was one of those that are often on soap operas. The woman he married was one his father had been caught having sex with by his mother. The how and why of his marriage to her we was found recently. Needless to say this marriage alienated him from the rest of the family.

He joined the U.S. Army 17 Feb 1943, saw service in the European Theater of Operations. He remained in the Army as a career soldier for 28 years. He was a squad leader in C Company 17th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He finished up his career as a helicopter repairman in C Troop 7th Bn 17th Cavalry, ETSing 31 May 1971. He died Oct 1987 and is buried in the National Cemetery Fort Bliss Texas. From my recollections he was in the 26th Inf Div at Christmas of 1944, this was a card with the division patch on the front. Since moving I have not been able to locate the card. The division had 4 campaign stars. Receipt of DD214s reveals the following WWII service. MM 1944 M1 rifle, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, PFC, departure for France 27 Aug 1944, lapel button issued. Korean war service, UNSM, KSM, GCM 3rd award, NDSM, NDSM 1st OLC, Driver and Mechanic Badge, Aircrewman Badge, 4 Overseas Bars. Vietnam service, GCM 4th award, VCM, VSM.

A Brief History of the IOWA Friends of Old-Time Music:
Overview
The Iowa Friends of Old-Time music began as an informal group of musicians and their friends over thirty years ago at a gathering called the FIDDLER'S PICNIC. The organization has gone though a lot of changes and expansion since that time, always focused on the preservation and enjoyment of traditional music. The Iowa Friends of Old-Time music is currently a recognized Iowa non-profit agency, chartered in 2001. See our By-Laws
The Fiddler's Picnic
The first FIDDLER'S PICNIC was organized in 1970. Key members of this event were AL MURPHY, TOM GUILLESPE, HARRY OSTER, ART ROSENBAUM, and KEITH DEMPSTER. The location of the early picnics varied. In the early '70's the University of Iowa's Friends of Old Time Music was organized under the direction of HARRY OSTER and ART ROSENBAUM. This group became responsible for the picnic and set it's annual date and moved it to it's current location, the Johnson County Fairgrounds, in 1973. Since the early 80's DENNS ROSEMAN has been the priciple organizer. DAVE HICKS has also be instumental with his help (even when his is not playing one of his instruments!)
This event quickly became a favorite showcase for many local and regional musicians, including such notable old-time musicians as LEO MURPHY, BUZZ FOUNTAIN, CHARLIE DROLLINGER, PETE DELANEY, GLEN KLYN, and JOHN KASPER.

Many "younger" players also made (and continue to make) regular appearances at the picnic before becoming nationally recognized performers including AL MURPHY, BOB BLACK, GUY DROLLINGER, GREG BROWN, DAVE MOORE, CATFISH KEITH, HOLLY O'DELL NATHAN BELL, SUSAN SHORE.

A third generation of players is now coming of age and capitalizing on the promise that was shown while many were still in elementary school, performing with parents and family at the picnic such as HANNAH and MEGAN DROLLINGER.

Charles Raymond Drollinger was born April 10, 1893, near Humboldt and died July 15, 1914, aged 21 years, 3 months and 5 days. His death was caused by heat prostration while at work in a stone quarry Wednesday afternoon of last week. When he was four years old his parents moved to Humboldt where he grew to manhood. In January, 1912, he was converted and united with the M.E. church. He was also a member of the Epworth League, a regular attendant at church, League and Sunday School every Sunday for two years with the exception of two Sundays. Raymond was obedient to his parents, keeping God's command, "Honor thy Father and thy Mother." He was industrious, ambitious and unselfish, always glad to render kindness to the members of the family and others, thinking more of the welfare and interests of others than of his own. He was honest, truthful and trustworthy, clean in his morals and habits. Raymond was a Christian young man, his life has glorified his Creator and he has gone to his reward.
Funeral services were held from the M. E. church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock conducted by Rev. Lawellin assisted by Rev. Nanninga, and internment was in Mount Hope cemetery.
